Experience with 2001 Audi TT Coupe?

I am looking to downgrade from my 05 TSX to lower my monthly payments and I came across a 2001 Audi TT Coupe w/ $13,995.

Can anyone give me some background on issues with this car? Thanks!

WIL

btw. for anyone in the Boston area, I am looking to sell my TSX. Its a 2005 Acura TSX w/ Navigation and just over 24K miles. I have just over $14,500 left to pay on it. So I am most likely looking to sell it for around $24K. I can remove the exhaust and wheels to lower it another grand if someone wanted. Let me know if you or anyone you know would be interested.

Is it the 180hp model or the 225hp high pressure turbo. I know that they've had problems with the instrument clusters failing, and the 1.8t motor is known to have its coilpacks fail. You'd have to ask someone like CrazySellout for more info though.

My uncle has a 3.2TT Roadster - top notch interior and exterior (with the S-Line package). And a hoot to drive! I'd imagine the 01 would offer much of the same.

I dont really follow the TT. All i know is that most A4 guys say TT drivers are homos.

As far as the 1.8t, engine is soild. They just blow coilpacks when they get too hot somtimes. I have had to replace two in 40k miles. BUt they really easy to replace and cost $20 each.

When buying a used 1.8t, i would check the oil lines to make sure there is no build up. Sludge is a bitch. There are others car out there for $14k that i rather have though....

Maybe I'll stop by an Audi dealership to see what they have.

I was going to look at a 2002 Acura RSX Type-S w/ 46,389 miles for $13,888, but I just read that this is after a $3000 trade or cash. I guess $16,888 is still a decent price for this car. What do you guys think?

I used to date a woman who owned a TT convertible. Ever since then I have thought they looked like a girl's car (not so much for the hard top one).

One other thing - try sitting in one first! The door comes almost all the way up to your eyes. Very small windows with very tall doors.

reasons? driven one? Or still trying to shake this one from the tree.

I definetlely agree that the original (the one with the 1.8T) isn't much of a sporting bet. BUT the 3.2 VR6 motor, the 6spd DSG, stiffer suspension, and wider rims/tires make it an absolute HOOT to drive. I love it. I drove the 3.2TT again just about a month ago, 2 weeks after getting my S2000, and I still found the TT to be an absolute BLAST! The exhaust has a great sound and character, the engine revs super quick, and the transmission is hands down the best "automated" transmission ever installed in a vehicle.

And it looks STUNNING with the S-Line body kit. His is in the dark gray color and is a roadster. From my personal experience, I've gotten way more looks, stares, and comments in it than in my S2k.

As for the chic car comments - Miatas are generally referred to as chic cars. Doesn't make them any less fun to drive. I personally could give two shits about whether something is a chic car, as long as its fun to drive.

The radio is under the steel flap on the center dash.

I actually talked to the guy today. I asked him if there was a radio and he said that it doesn't come with it and that its "priced" to sell. Well, I'm a little suspicious of why it wouldn't have a radio system...

Just over a year and a half.

I'm starting to think that this may not be the best thing to do. I currently pay $377 per month and if I were to get anything that I would want (which would be in the $15,000 range), the trade in would only bring it down to $8000 to finance. If I were to finance that for 60 months, it'll still be around $170 per month. Its a savings of $200, but I don't know if its really worth it. I could easily just ask to refinance with my bank.

What do you guys recommend?

What do you guys recommend?

If you finance a five or six year old car for 60 months, you will be upside down when it comes time to purchase something new. You dont want to do that to yourself, do you?

You are trading a dog in for a dog with fleas (I wont go into what Audi's/VW's cost to maintain!)

If you are having a problem making the payments on your TSX, sell it. Pay cash for the cheapest car you can find and sock away money each month until you can actually afford the car you drive.
