The forum I got these off of said he slipped in the dirt on the left and over corrected and hit the cars. For some reason they staged the cars in the middle of the field for entry to the track.

What a dumb-ass thing to do (stage the cars that close with nothing in between). That track needs some serious attention.

Thinking more about it: why did all of the driver's who were staged there not say anything? If I was that close, with no wall in between, I wouldn't have even gone over there.

Doubt it. Most insurance companies don't cover cars on the track. The people whom organized the event and track are a bunch of morons. Why would you have cars staged 20-30 away from the track WITHOUT a barrier. I've never seen anything like that before. They are lucky no one got hurt(I assume) or there could be some huge legal ramifications regarding negligence.

well, actually, there are a good amount of companies that will cover stuff like this because it's "instructional" and not a race.

It happened at Pocono's Raceways this past weekend, here are some links of people talking about it with some more pics. They were staged right near the checkered flag, so they were running hard.

Depends on your policy. I know you can get special insurance for track cars. My friends IMSA Lite car had an incident last week and I know he isn't covered. An oil line broke and the car caught on fire. I know the CF floor that got melted cost in excess of 10K.

After reading that Lotus Forums account of the event it sounds like the driver was a real winner and that event was very poorly organized.

As long as it is not a timed event, then your insurance is all you need. This is why DE events are so popular-low cost for track time, and should anything happen, god for bid, your insurance will cover it.

I don't think the Evo totalled but the NSX is questionable.

I read on another forum the guy did it so you didn't hear the ass reaming he got from the instructer when he pulled off the track, if you look you can see him getting chewed up because he put them in a very dangerous situation. It's funny, the guy in the camera car is getting called a bigger jackass then the guy driving the evo
