Define "capable." Again, the V8's 100 hp advantage comes from its ability to rev to 8400 rpm instead of 7000 on the turbo I6. Look at its dyno graph (when it comes out) -- cut it off at 7000 rpm like the I6, and you're probably short 100 hp of the peak.

Now are you telling me you rev the nuts off your car every time you drive it? I'm not saying the V8's not capable, just that for an everyday cruiser, it's not as useful as its numbers suggest.

A safe guess that the avg M3 owner is not driving one as a daily, prob a 2nd or 3rd car.

And you're talking to an enthusiastic bunch, high rpm's may not be practical, but they are a hella lotta fun - especially when it sounds as good as this engine sounds!

Also, the M3 has way more improvements over the regular 335 than just an engine, in fact over 80% of the parts are different.

The better BMW forums probably have keys to the chassis designation. Just to make things more confusing, Mercedes also used similar E__ designations as internal IDs for the C and/or E class cars.
Your right about the first part, but Mercedes uses WXXX and RXXX designations.

So most of the reviews are saying its not as edgy as the E46 M3. Which i guess makes sense since the E46 wasnt as edgy as the E36...
Not so sure I agree with that one...the E36 was pretty watered down at least for the US market. Way slower/less HP, 4-door sedan option, auto tranny option IIRC

E46 was an engineering masterpiece when it debuted. E92 seems uninspiring to me by comparison. (Not saying I want an E46-M, but I sure as hell did back in the day...)

You're correct, esp. since I remember references to the W124 Mercs, etc. I think I confused references in articles referencing the BMW E__ chassis and the MB E55 or something like that.

Love it! The wheels for some reason though look much smaller than the previous gen M3 ones. Not sure why.

its because the body is bulbous. ooh also the pics shown here are with the 18"s... 19"s are optional and would def look better. think about the same difference on the E46...

so is the new M3 gonna have that big ass navi area in the dash too? I dunno, looks kinda out of place in it... that should be left for the luxury cars.. shoulda made an exclusive more race-oriented dash just for the M3 - most of the parts are M3-specific anyways, aren't they?

that simulator is decently fun looking, but they lose points for using a projector and having it overlap onto the ceiling and dash.

The interiors of M cars onlys have different seats and steering wheels. The rest of the interior is pretty much the same. Some other minor cosmetic differences, but thats it. Most of the differences in M cars are body panels and where it counts, the suspension and drivetrain.

You see some angles of the M3 and it doesn't look right.

And then you see some that are just
