Edmunds long term test, Pontiac G8
Just read the review http://www.insideline.com/pontiac/g8...iac-g8-gt.html and it truely is sad that GM axed pontiac, because, this was one hell of a car! dealerships, I looked at, way overpriced, and hogged the hell out of it. Also, its resale value took a huge hit! I don't know why americans didnt respont to it, besides its inflated price.

wow. good read. when the g8 come out, i was almost sold on selling my acura tl and buying one of these just because of that RWD, 361 horse power platform for about 30 grand. what a steal.
if it had a bigger following and converted more 300m/charger buyers (which it totally beat), it might had a better chance - especially if it was released a year or two ago. the g8 was the ONLY pontiac other than the 04' gto that i would ever consider buying.

I remember reading several stories of dealerships refusing to sell GXPs (which are overpriced, btw, at least compared to the GT) even after it was announced that Pontiac was folding
It was sad, but Pontiac was becoming another parts-bin clone brand anyway. At least the trim differences between GMCs and Chevy trucks are somewhat noticeable.

The GXPs are still over priced. Some are over $40K.

The G8 GT, OTOH are being let go for quite cheap. Couple that with a Lingenfelter kit and you have a winner.

^how stupid Those dealerships can go fuck themselves. It would be pretty funny if their deathgrip on the GXPs resulted in them going out of business and having nothing left but the GXP to drive off with
oh and oops, in my post I meant to say "I remember reading stories of dealerships refusing to sell GXPs for less than MSRP...."
The GT is still a great car especially for the price. I didn't drive one sadly, but I sat shotgun a couple times. Just wish you could get a GT with a 6MT. But nooo.....

I love the look and lines of the G8. I debated getting one myself if I couldn't find a 6mt TL.
Stryker blue is HOT, rare but I love the color.

Damn, thats a nice price.
Still, I'm going to grab an '11 5.0 Mustang once my house projects are done.

A friend in Austin bought a G8 GXP 6AT new somewhere in the mid/high 30's in El Paso. They were not charging list but it was more than invoice. The issue he was he had to fly out one way and drive it back. He loves driving it, this comparing to his other cars (928S4, E500 Hammer).

Great review.
I strongly considered the G8 GXP before purchasing my V. Even the GT I drove was an awesome ride.
Ultimately, I wanted Bluetooth and navi, and the G8 offered neither. The CTS-V's interior is far superior in refinement. Now I get to see one of my neighbors cruise by in his black GT every day. Lucky bastard.
The G8 will be sorely missed by this new American muscle enthusiast.
As far as their sales.....all those enthusiasts who loved the G8 never showed up to buy, even before GM's current troubles--they sold basically with lots of cash on the hood.

I must add to this, I have now had this 09 G8 GT for about a year now and I have to say that I LOVE it! I came from an 03 CL-S6 and I must admit in the beggining I felt a little uncertain going with the G8 considering I owned Acura's for the past 10 years. I guess it was something I was not use to. Now the car is FAST!! I prefer the 6MT but the 6AT (only available) is still top notch. It is very roomy inside to car 5 large adults. The RWD is also fun. I havent done a burout with this car but on a rainy day you can spin them easily until the traction control kicks in. Take the traction control off, not recomended, the car will slide...in a good way!! All in all I made a good decison. I got a V8 powered 361 HP, 385 TQ RWD american muscle car (sedan) by Pontiac. I plan on keeping her for a while!

As I said, G8 GT and GXP owners are lucky bastards.
I wish Honda would change its mind about RWD and V8s. Knowing Honda, it would make the most efficient one ever with the lowest emissions. I'd totally buy it. But it will never happen, so I guess I shouldn't care.

At the time, I was looking at used 07 TL-S besides the G8. But I couldnt justify paying $30k for a used car with under 30k miles for it when I could get a new car for a tad less then that!
All in all this car is a great BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!!

How has it been in winter (assuming with snow tires) or do you have a beater? Beautiful car by the way!
