Edmunds: First Place - 2001 Acura TL Type-S

Acura TL Type-S beated all of those

BMW 330i
Cadillac Catera Sport
Infiniti I30t
Lexus IS 300
Lincoln LS V8
Mazda Millenia S
Mercedes-Benz C320
Volvo S60

Oh Yeah, "the CL-s is crapy car and no competition to The ultimate driving machine, the 330Ci"

confused?? I love my CLS http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/compa...8/page017.html

There's something definitely fishy here. The TLS beat all those cars but the CLS can't.

It's a conspiracy. In some warehouse near Ohio there must be tons of TL's waiting to be shipped.

They said the brakes felt better then the CL-S they tested a few months ago.... Did they change anything on the brakes that I did not hear about????

Go figure... all we had to do to beat the 330 was add two more doors

I read both articles. I do find it fishy that the TL-S beat the 330i but the 330Ci beat the CL-S..

Edmunds did say the 330i had brake problems, but could that have changed their vote?

The CL-S received a last place voting in their "Luxury sports coupe comparision" test where they tested the Volvo C70, MB CLK430, and the BMW 330Ci. The "Ultimate Driving Machine" received a first place voting. Still love your CL-S now?

You just posted this thread because you feel poor about not buying a BMW so you just needed something to boost your ego. HaHa j/p My "I love BMWs" side was taking over.

if anything, the cl-s should've beaten the volvo c70. and even the clk320...oh, they used the 430...why didn't acura say they didn't have an cl's and give them an nsx instead?

but then again, it was the only jap car in that comparo.

C70 is an amazing car. But I do feel that Edmunds is Eurocar bais. I think they got to many threatening letters from that comparision that they made the TL-S 1st place in another comparision?

Reading a car comparision and seeing a car rank whatever doesn't mean that it's like that in real life. A comparision is just there to get information on the car and seeing the an editors opinion on how they rank. Each customer has his/her own preference of what a perfect car should be like. If everyone had the same idea for a perfect car like me, We'd all be driving around in 4 door sedans with LS6 engines and Jaguar-like quality interiors

Acura didnt officially say they did.

But I have a feeling SOMETHING changed.

My brakes feel mighty stronger on my new CLS then they do on my other one.

I don't get it either... I'm still trying to figure out why every test of the TL-S is 1/2 to 1 second faster than the CL-S to 0-60.

Can anyone explain this?

The extra door weight creates more down force / better traction = faster 0-60 times

Weight distribution and suspension tuning could contribute to the why magazines can get faster times in the TL-S than the CL-S. I have a feeling the TL-S transfers less weight to the rear than the CL-S giving it a traction advantage during acceleration runs.

What is the weight distribution of the two?

FYI...

They compared the TL-S to 330i and S60 with automatic transmissions, whereas manual 330ci and C70 are used in the comparison with the CL-S. I think that's the major difference between the two tests.

i think we have an answer there...on the other comparison, for cars that the cl probably would've beaten, they either gave it a manual tranny or a v8 engine.

it's all in the bias...one review can compare the same cars but find places to "add" or "delete" something to give the edge to the car they like the best.
