Driving without a license

I have a cousin who just recently had his license expire but he needs to get to school Mon-Thurs. He's waiting for papers from the INS to extend his "right to work?" and extend his driver's license.

Now, the question is:

If he does get pulled over, is he just going to be fined or is the car going to be impounded?

Depends how much they want to screw him over. I've had a friend just get ticketed, and a friend's mother get impounded for an expired license. I dont know how INS would factor into ticket/impound.

Throw in arrested as well.

Edit: Nevermind, suspension is different then expired.

And it definitely will be impounded. They wont let him drive away on an expired license.

Depends. I've had friends get only tickets from an expired license. As long as it's not suspended, & the guy has a good record, the cop will have the final say. Also if it's close to the expire date that helps.

Depends on cops... most likely they will take him in and impound his car....

he's taking a chance..... if you 2 are close... I would drive him around during those 2 days...

It all depends on the officer, sometimes they'll let you call a licensed driver to pick up the car.

Uh, how about some public transit? You know, the legal way of getting to school...

Pain in the ass. I need to renew mine every year too until the never ending green card process gets done.

We live in Southern California, Simi Valley to be more specific. Public transportation is a joke around here.

kind of silly to wait till the last minute to renew an expired license, dont you think? especially considering it says right on the license when it expires. did they not have time during the last couple months?

Please keep in mind a violation even for something as simple as driving with expired/suspended driving license can negatively affect INS proceedings for a green card.
