Arrow driving cross country - speed trap question

I am driving from DC to san diego next week. Was planning on doing it friday, july 1, because there will be few speed traps beginning of the month. But i want to leave sooner...

2 questions..

1) will i see speed traps and cops looking to give tickets just in local roads, or also major interstate highways? I know it is 2 different types of cops, just not sure if their situations are different

2) I got a ticket last month in maryland, 1 point on my license. If i get a ticket in another state, do the points count? Will it still affect my insurance? I honestly dont mind paying $60, big deal, but i am a 23 yo, and insurance is ridiculous for me. So i dont want that to go up.

THANKS!

Speed traps

Check out speedtrap.org to learn where the police like to sit. If you get a ticket in any state, it will show up on your Maryland Drivers' License.

That weekend they will be out heavily due to the holiday weekend. I usually go 5-7mph over the limit on highways and have no problems anymore.

if the ticket is out of state, it doesn't go on your record, you just have to pay the fine

out of state tickets

I disagree with the previous post. In 2000 I got a ticket in Wyoming. It was posted to my Florida Driver's license and then carried over to Maryland within four months.

Not true at all. Most states now talk to each other through the DMV. A buddy of mine got a wreckless driving ticket in Oregon, and got his license here
in Cali suspended!!!!

If I were you, try and drive at just 5mph over the speed limit. Although in some states, that will still get you a ticket.

You should get a V1, but make sure you check with each state that you are going to drive through. In some states, radar detectors are illegal.

Have a safe trip.

Actually it may not. I had tickets in VA, GA, and NJ and none of them are on my MD license. Some states say they'll send it and never do. And for the record - no tickets in almost 5 years - most of those were company car related.

Isn't it true that not all states have points, such as PA?
