Does Acura plan for a TSX-S?

I have been thinking of getting a TSX but I will not unles they put out more power. They are peppy but by no means a CL power house. Does anyone think that Acura will offer a higher powered TSX in the future?

I think Acura stated that they are moving away from "Type S" cars in the future.

Big mistake by Acura. A TSX-S would be sweet.

Give it the S2000 motor/drivetrain hehe. TSX = weeney FWD, TSX-S = 8000rpm+RWD

Sometimes I think Honda is STUPID. Do they not realize something like that would sell better than Tickle-Me-Elmo?

Yes, that sort of application would sell great HERE and other Acura enthusiat boards. But unfortunately, we make up a VERY small percent of Acura's core market. Hence this will probably never happen.

I really don't think that's true anymore. Look at all the competition, they all are migrating towards high powered sedans. This would be something along the entry level. I dunno...

I think Honda execs are sleeping well these days....as someone said earlier, we are only a small part of their sales.

hi.. i've been lurking around in the clubrsx and acl forums for a few months now since i'm trying to buy an acura around march (hopefully a CL). i wasn't gonna post until then, but i've decided to post a bit early seeing as how i have info that may be useful. anyway.. one of the moderators in clubrsx took a trip to japan and visited honda hq. apparently honda has built an awd and turbocharged tsx with a new version of the K24 engine. it is currently available in japan and they're considering bringing it to the US. if you wanna find out the whole story you can visit the thread here

I've got a TSX loaner right now and it sure doesn't feel like 200 H.P. It is the 5AT, but i will still expecting more. Feels floaty at higher speeds also. Makes me realize how dialed in the Red Rider is

I think almost every other car maker would disagree with you. They all have RWD or AWD sport sedans and coupes.

When I test drove the TSX 5AT with my fiance I was so un-impressed. Coming from my 200hp Prelude not too soon before, I thought that the gearing was pedestrian and not aimed at performance at all. For a car that could (should?) probably boast better performance than my 2000 Prelude...where was the "go" where was the "hang?"? Since she and I commute about 50 miles round trip a day manual isn't a real option. The 5AT was weak compared to the similar engined Prelude. The IS300 was sweet but at the last minute she decided on an MDX. Go figure. At least I got to play with a bunch of cars. The 330xi was boring too....the IS300 was a joy to drive but a pain to look at inside. The gauges were awful. The TSX was by FAR the best interior of any car that I have seen. Maybe even the new TL.

Hey guys newbie from Soopa's other site a-tsx.com.

Its not currently available in Japan. It was a prototype car that his apparently tested on a closed track. The only AWD TSX available is sold in Japan with the 2.0 160HP Base RSX Engine

Does anyone here really think Honda will produce a Turbocharged car? Maybe as a delaer installed option ala TRD, but even that sounds far fetched. But I think you can definently expect a 225-240HP TSX sometime in the next couple of years.

I'm back! Sorry for the lack of updates. I was hanging out with a friend of mine, and we just partied like there's no tomorrow. Plus he let me drive his skyline! Holy crap that car is damn awesome.

Anyways, as for the good stuff.

1. The Accord Type-R AWD
The accord type-r (TSX for us), is now available in Japan with AWD. The model they let me drive was a prototype that they are thinking about bringing to the US domestic market. The car is for "consumer trials" where they get customer feedback. Essentially this car is a TSX, with a new version of the K24 engine spec. What's different? Lets just say its got some more HP, and some more torque. This is mainly to compensate the HP loss to the wheels when AWD is implemented. However, the version I drove was equipped with a turbocharged engine that they're tossing up in the air as a performance package option. I just couldn't resist screaming "VTEC BABY!" when it kicked in. The car handles great, as many have already said, the car is extremely well balanced, responsive, and nicely tuned. Equipped with the nice buttery sweet DC5R 6-speed, it was probably one of the most enjoyable cars I have ever driven. Driving on the twisties was great, although I'm not used to driving AWD, and thus wasn't acustomed to the powerslide effect. They called me chicken... So why AWD in the US? They realize that for one, they're losing a good amount of sales to subaru and mitsubishi for those who are looking for some AWD capabilities. This is especially true for the new market segment that's growing rapidly where people want AWD, but don't want to drive something as obnoxious as an SUV. Also they want to price the TSX higher, since it's price bracket right now is cannibalizing the RSX market, yet is too far from the TL market. This fills that void. I told them this is by far what they should've done from day 1. I told them that the pricing segment is a great idea, and they should have the performance option for the turbo, but not to charge a stupid price for it like the RSX's package. They were excited to have a representative of a car owners club in the US who spoke japanese that could convey these thoughts to them. They're taking my suggestions quite seriously, and will give it some weight when they make their final decision in February. The great part? I'm now on their contact list as an evaluator for the American market. I think they might send me invites or something in the future. I hope. I seriously hope they bring the AWD TSX to the states though. I'd be the first in line to get one.

2. The RSX's fate
In October, Honda Japan & Honda America were discussing a huge problem. RSX sales had fallen nearly 40% in the US market suddenly, despite a very good opening year. This made them seriously consider discontinuing the sales of RSX's in the market. The culprit? The TSX. For about 5k more, you got the Type-S's HP, with more torque, more space, and yet had the Navi as an option. They realized this pricing bracket mistake which goes back to them considering #1 mentioned above. I mentioned to them something they missed though. Their prime demographic for the RSX (males ages 20-30), were 50% unemployed due to the enconomic conditions. I assured them that this is probably the primary case aside from the TSX issue, and that if they stuck with it for 2 years the sales will come back. I asked them about any refreshes to the current RSX line, and they said they just added the heated mirrors, but don't expect to add anything to the RSX in the near future.

3. Skunkworks @ Honda
These guys showed me their prototype V8 engine. Now I know what you're thinking, since I asked them myself... What the hell is honda doing making a huge ass engine when they always made small ones? Well, 2 reasons: MDX and NSX. Both of these cars have been a tad stagnant with power, and Honda is considering using this engine for a "power" option. Remember, they got Nissan to compete with. They're also really messing around with the K24 engine like crazy. They're goal is to have the K24 a base, where you can customize it with different modules for power or use. Kind of a neat idea, but I'm not sure how it'll work. S2000: there's a possible major refresh of the S2000. I've seen some sketches already that they showed me, and told them to get rid of 3 ugly ass ones. One of them looked really hot though - it was kind of aston-martin like.

there will be a long line behind you...as long as it's sub 30K, actually we'll say sub $35k since it will have better interior than the EVO and STi. if it's much more than $35k, then the volvo S60R might be more appealing. DO you know much about the AWD system used? Seems the japanese cars like to use tricks to make the cars more sporty, but they won't handle the bad weather as bad. The G35 is a good example. I like having so much possible rear wheel power. But the downside is only 50% tq at the front wheels for the snow. Granted this is better than RWD for snow, but not going to keep up with the torsen center diff's on the Audi's. But like I said, the G35 AWD is more agressive/sporty than the quattro in Audis. The G35 system doesn't seem to add as much weight since there is no center diff either.
