Dodge Caliber?

Equipped one the way I'd like it...SXT model w/2.0l engine, and CVT transmission, package "E," and speed control are the only options. Mid $16k range.

How well does it compare to the Matrix or similar cars in its class?

Thanks.

Dude, you obviously only read one thread on that board.

Mike, the Caliber is HOT, I love them, test drove an RT. The fit and finish is pretty outstanding for the price and manufacturer. Dodge has been doing good things. I'm not sure how it compares to the matrix (Although, I think i'd take the matrix over the dodge simply cause it's a toyota). The Caliber is still really to new to get a good idea on reliability.

It's a great deal though, and I think it's a sweet looking little car. I keep telling adri that once the SRT version comes out she's gonna see her accord go missing

Caliber is ugly to me....maybe I'm the only one, but I wouldn't drive one.

...then again, I don't like the Matrix or Vibe either.

reports have placed it in fourth place (amongst 5). All excellent vehicles, however. Unfortunatley, it does not share as many mercedes parts as mercedes shares chrysler parts...

i won't knock the caliber...it looks like it's a pretty nice little ride, hell i didn't know it came with a cvt, that makes it even cooler to me. when the srt version comes out, i gurantee you people will be jockin them from the sideline...can you hear the whispers...it's still a caliber

Its about $2k cheaper than a comparably equipped Matrix...and a more powerful engine as well...hence the reason why I'm looking at it.

But fuel economy blows..

Has anyone driven a new Golf and Caliber, and compared the two?

For the money I think it's a great concept and something kids (16-25) will really dig.

I've heard that Daimler/Chrysler helped mitsubishi with their financial problems. The next Evolution X will be based off the Dodge Caliber, identical platform.

Interesting how the new SRT 4 is the caliber and not the neon

I personally think its a nice car..... down here in FL they start at 13-14K, for the money its not a bad car, and you get your own little cooler for drinks ... lol

For under 20K sure Honda Civc is the way to go... but for a low payment > new car > new style body etc.... Caliber is not a bad chioce...

The value is there and it makes a lot of sense, it's just not my style. I'd rather have a traditional hatch, or even an xB.

My friend just purchased a Caliber SXT solar yellow $17,860. My first opinion of the car is ugly (the lack of rear tint). I don't really mind the front or the sides, but the styling of the rear hatch makes me sick..it looks like a malibu maxx. When i sat inside i noticed the use of very cheap, hard plastics. The car just lacks character, yeah, the seats do have a color matched mess, but still not my taste. We just took it on a trip and i will admit it was very comfortable and pritty quiet. She commented alot on the lack of power when accelerating from lights and merging. Maybe the next higher engine has alittle more torque. It does have side curtain airbags, but is lacking torso airbags? Dodge, you make no sense...at least my head will be safe...but my ribs? It does have an ipod holder and an aux jack. But one option i just don't get is the cooler....it doesn't really work. One major problem is blindspots. This car is horrible..you can't see anything. The back windows are tiny and the pillars are huge. Accident waiting to happen. It does have a nice key which holds all of the lock and unlock buttons...wish my cl had that. Overall, much better than the car it replaces (neon), but still needs alot of work.

Why did Dodge replace the Neon with that?

I drove my wife's aunt's Caliber. It has to be the biggest piece of crap I have ever driven. NOTE: I drive Nissans which DEFINITELY are not known for having a Lexus fit and finish.

I have driven a 2G Neon in the past (rental) and it did NOT feel nearly as cheap as the Caliber. The new SRT4 is shaping up to be a 300hp piece of garbage. I seriously hope Dodge lists a year's supply of duct tape as an option/accessory.

Went to Kauai for business today...got a Caliber as a rental. Car is pretty nice inside. Driving a car with a CVT trans is a different experience. I floored it on a empty stretch of road and noticed the tach goes to redline and just stays there while the car accelerates. One thing that I didn't like about this car is the rear hatch as it is frickin' heavy and hard to open and close. Also, the release latch and handle is placed fairly high on the rear hatch.

As a Murano owner, I can tell you that the key is applying enough throttle to keep the motor at the peak of its power delivery. With the VQ35DE in my Murano, keeping it around 4,500-5,000 rpm produces the best acceleration. After a year, I am still getting used to it.
