Pros: dude.. .it's a fun ASS car.. my ifrned has one with an S15 front, some cool 3 spoke wheels and some Nismo custom fit kit w/ fender flares... he swapped in the SR20DET and loves it... he's still practicing his drifting right now but man that car can get up and go... this car is the classic japanese drifter... it's a lot of fun to drive... compared to your 2.3CL it has a HUGE aftermarket open... and you'll have more to do fi you're into modding... and three letters will explain it all... RWD... nuff said...
Cons: would probably be space... I'm not sure exactly how big older CLs are but the 240 is a comfortable 2 seater and that's it... the back seats are useless... the stock motor on the 240SX sucks... I remember him driving it before his swap and it was a piece... also this isn't a luxury car... definetely more on the sport compact car end of things...

the swap is nice, but only if you upgrade after. I raced one a couple of weeks ago with one and beat him by like a car or so, but yeah...making a silvia (turbo 240) is a good secret.

if you do a sr20 swap with a few bolt-ons (I/E,IC,downpipe) you'll basically have one of the baddest cars on the road. a guy in my area has one and not too many cars around here can touch it. its sickening fast. an RB26 swap will be even faster.

I actually like the look of the old 240's....they look sleek and sporty, and with a body kit, the front looks mean as hell. Oh yeah, if you want to see a silvia, the one from Fast and Furious is a silvia.

I've always messed around with the idea of picking up another 240SX since the day I got rid of my old one.
In the states, that car was so grotesquely underpowered it was sick. On the highway, my girlfriend at the time pulled on me in her Plymouth Sundance!!!!!!!!!! Holy shit that sucks.
But, there is no question that this car has character, and that's why I loved it.
Pros:
The tightest turning radius of any car at its time and probably still so today. You could easily make 1 lane U-turns. Even in stock form without the Sports Package that car stuck to the road and was like one with the driver--you point, it goes.
Great transmission and super smooth shifter
RWD.....nuff said.
Very light
Lots of aftermarket
Engine swap for about 2 grand.
Some have 4 wheel steering and some have limited slips.
And, best of all, they have held almost no value so you can pick one up for dirt cheap!!!!

Pro's:
Ton's of potential for modification aesthetically and motor wise.
REAR WHEEL DRIVE!!!! Hellz yeah!
Cons:
REAR WHEEL DRIVE!!! ... depending on where you live =(
I'd get one... especially the later 97-98 models with the sharp slant headlights instead of the rounder ones... those come with the projector beams which would look hella tight with an HID upgrade.
Lates
BTW look up Non Fujita's 240sx to give you an idea of this car's potential.

Ummm....the 240sx light??? Looks pretty hefty to me...granted that is probably partially due to the motor...but still.....light is under 2300 lbs.

an rb26dett swap would be sick but i dunno how possible that is. but doing an s15 silvia conversion would be hot! its been a trend in the import scene as far as looks goes but if u can back it up with the sr20det then you will be whuppin up cars left and right
