Do mods generally help or hurt a car's resale value
Assuming the mods are tastefully done/nothing radical etc, and no major engine mods. I've done quite a bit of modifications to my z, and may be selling it soon to get something more practical. I don't plan on removing any of the mods...too much work and some things would cost me money to revert back to stock. I've never sold a modded car before...is it harder/easier etc assuming you price it around book value for a non-moded car?

Hurt.
Most people see it as inferior parts, a sign of an abused car, etc...
More times than not, you'll get offered less due to the mods.
But you might be able to get away with it, considering its a Z and the average buyer will more than likely do sometype of modification to it. I'd lean on the side on hurt more than help, though.
BTW... What are you thinking of getting?

I've kept my CLS stock, because I feel it'll be worth more stock.
But like anything else, that's based on personal opinion.
To some people a modded car is better (especially if the mods are ones that they would have done anyways). It's usually cheaper to buy someones project (modded) car then having to mod a car yourself.
It really depends on what type of buyers you show the car too. Find the right buyer and it might be worth more modded.
edit: I was looking at the Z (among other cars) and got the CLS as it was more practical.

Hurt. I tried to give my car to 3 different non acura dealers & they all wouldn't touch it cause it's lowered, & had exhaust & headers. They low balled me at 12-13K. I asked why, they claimed it's a warranty thing they had to whole sale the car & put up for auction because of it & couldn't sell it on the lot.
If you find an private person you will get more or close to the real value of it.

helped me a bit, when I got rid of my CL they knew the value of comptech and helped my sale. They gave me a price with mods and without, It was worth selling the car with the mods after I priced out how much it would cost to return the car to stock.
