Diagnosing Problem in Friends Nissan

My buddy has a 98 Nissan pathfinder. When he is driving and accelerates he sometimes stalls out. COuld this be something to do with the fuel filter or fuel sensor? ANy experience and is this something I can check out for him. I am pretty mechanical with cars, it is just the decipheriing of the problem that is tough for me. Where to begin?

sounds like fuel injectors. Nissans are notorious for injector issues. might need new ones.

I dunno, have you ever replaced injectors? a Pathfinder tech manual might be helpful. Also, it might not be necessary to replace all of them... if you are unsure I would recommend having it looked at by Nissan and at least getting an estimate.

First thing I would do is to tune it up. Make sure the plugs are clean and burning properly. A quick look at the plugs and I can tell lots on how the motor is firing. If it is a fuel starvation issue you will see it in the way the plugs are burning.

**Click here for an excellent page on spark plugs**

Check the air filter. Run a container of fuel injector cleaner through it.

THEN start looking at the injectors.
