Dear Acura: PAY ATTENTION! Siri now to integrate with Mercedes

It seems like no big deal to me. Besides, Android phones have a bigger share of smartphone sales right now. Why add a feature that only half or so of your customers can use?

Lol. From my iPhone or iPad, I can operate my baby monitor, garage door opener, outside home lights, host a webex meeting, make a face to face phone call on a standard software package to mobile device or PC, download a professional application to do about anything in seconds, remote control any PC or Mac, present what's on the phone or iPad wirelessly to any screen or projector with an HDMI port, electronically sign a medical record, manage my VMware server cluster, run a windows, Linux, or Mac virtual environment in VMware or Citrix, VPN connect to any Juniper, Cisco, or Avaya based concentrator, dictate an email or text message with voice control, set gps based reminders.....
2/3 of what I just mentioned there is not possible on any other one device.
I work with and develop software for droid and iOS devices all day every day, and the iOS has it all over the 28 current renditions of the android OS in the wild. Until they unify and sustain some consistency, they'll never be a threat to the high end market. Honestly, the most intriguing new stuff is coming out of Nokia/Microsoft, but they're way late to the game.
iOS just works. Apple maintains OS standards and consistency across all devices, and controls the quality and delivery of all hardware. The reality is there isn't anyone else a car manufacturer could choose to integrate with; TW others have no consistent standards.

I'd rather take the closed nature of the IOS platform over Android for anything controlling my vehicle. There are way too many unchecked exploits running in the wild for Android. It's no big deal if all you do is play angry birds on your phone but integrating it with my car? No, no thanks.
However, I may purchase an android just to install wireshark on it. LOL Aside from that, I'll stick with my iPhone.

I have that level income, but i'm smart enough not to buy into the Iphone crap. My android does every thing and more that i want, or need it to including getting service everywhere i go, my kid who bought into the "must have" ploy of the Iphone, well she isnt always happy.

I think MB made this decision based off of more than just popularity. Here's a quick link on Symantecs assessment of IOS vs Android security. Open source is A LOT more fun but it's also A LOT more dangerous.
http://www.technoesq.com/technology/...ty-vs-android/
In addition, think about how many different iterations, versions and models of Android devices. It's all over the place and would be hard to provide the level of service that may want to each and every Android make/model. With IOS, there's one standard which makes it VERY easy to create a high-level end-user experience.
This isn't to say that we won't ever, or shouldn't see Android integration but I'm very interested to see how the security concerns are handled. With the level of electronic capability in today's car, please believe that your can be exploited once it's opened up to the rest of the world.

It's a good move, even if you loathe the Apple product. Direct integration of mobile devices into the car is not a bad thing for anyone.

Plus the greater amount of Android security concerns that I listed above. Correct me if I' wrong but there aren't any safeguards stopping someone from creating a malicious app and placing it onto the android app market. How long will it before one is crafted that attacks ur vehicle or reports ur vehicle info back to the creator of the app?

Great. Pull this thread up on your phone, and then tap twice on it where you project it wirelessly up on the 60" television in your living room, so you can show your friends. Oh wait, you've got an Android. Well, they may or may not make a cable to do that, depending on the phone you have, the connector it may or may not have, and the level of operating system on the device and what restrictions the carrier has placed on the use of it's features.

No singular phone nor brand fits everyone's needs.
P.S. Siri works in my TSX wagon just fine

How did this become an emotionally charged issue? We're talking about phones and cars; not debating how to end world hunger, right?

The point being the integration.
Life simplified.
Here's the rub:
I could care less what tech the acura navi and stereo have; give me a good amp, good speakers, and a dock for my phone with a big screen. It has navi. It has audio sources and video sources. It has internet. Why re-invent the wheel? Production costs for vehicle go down, you lose no value in functionality, and it's one less contraption to have to fool with.
I've digitized my entire music and movie library for streaming on the ipad/iphone/appletv/laptop and it's a god-send for staying organized and reducing headaches. No blu-ray player to upgrade firmware on, or uploading songs to each individual ipod, or memory stick, or car. Stream it all, anywhere. It's fantastic; and it's nice to see a manufacturer embracing this concept.

Don't worry, Acura will have this option available right after they release the V8 RWD Coupe.

I have never heard one person wish they go back to android. They always wonder why they didn't switch sooner.

Cell phones, computer OS, car brands, and cell phone carriers ALWAYS turn into an emotional conversation. Because everyone is so opinionated (and always right )

My kid wants to. But she has to wait till her contract is up to do so. It will be nice to see her crying every weekend when her phone becomes a door stop all weekend at our cottage because she doesnt get signal all while her mom and i surf at 4g and laugh at her.

Do people really do this to impress their friends with their iPhones? fsttyms1 specifically stated the Android does everything he wants or needs (and more), so why would he care about projecting it wirelessly on the 60" TV in his living room ?? We get it, you like the iPhone... but that's just silly...

Oh I'm sure. I would also expect someone like you, with your background, etc. to actually utilize a feature like that. My reply was more b/c of the way the OP replied to fsttyms1. Someone replies saying their phone works fine for them and meets their personal needs and he replies telling him to open AZ on his phone and project it on a 60" screen? Whereas most use their iPhone to show off, I know there are a lot of power users (like yourself and even the OP) who use it to its full capabilities... but that specific post was just kind of silly and irrelevant.

Kind of a silly digression as well b/c it's fairly safe to say that once an iPhone feature has been integrated somewhere, it will not be long before Android is also integrated. As was mentioned earlier in the topic, you have to reach as broad of an audience as possible... so more and more mobile integration will be forthcoming... this just happens to be one specific instance. It doesn't matter which phone is better or what network etc. since all manufacturers will be trying to integrate as much as possible over time.

When it comes down to it. I personally don't care who uses what. Its all personal preference.
I only think its stupid when people refuse to buy or use something because its a "trendy apple product" its just baseless.
