Having been working at a Ford/Lincoln dealer the last few months I can say I am pleasantly surprised by their offerings. The new Edge is money.

However, for the price, I'd be looking German (CPO). That said, I have thought about picking up a nice 2-4 year old King Ranch F150 since they sell for less then half used verses new.

I absolutely love the new Ford Edge. The new Edge Sport is a car I'd drive in a heartbeat. Congrats to your dad! Your family is showing some Ford love.

I don't blame your dad for not going for the '20s. Car and Driver said they made it ride like a covered wagon.

My Parents are actually thinking about getting one of these as well...the interior is light years ahead of its competition.

I don't care how they ride, I'd never get anything other than the biggest wheel/tire option. Just the way I am....

Then you would have to go for the Edge Sport with the 22 inch wheels...

One of the car mags tested the Edge Sport and found it to be slower to 60 mph than the base Edge. Those wheels must weigh a lot more than the base wheels.

The Edge is a very nice vehicle. Congrats to your dad.

Congrats to your dad, the new Edge looks really good, as Eric said earlier the electronics are best in class as well. Definitely a much better value than the RDX.

That is ridiculously steep. We picked up our 350 KR duallys a few months back just a little over $65. Credit be given where it's due, I was very impressed by the materials used inside and the power on hand, felt more like a luxo-suv than a work truck. However it took quite a while to get used to the sheer size as we drove over curbs in the first few days.

Great vehicle... Lots of toys, too! Certainly wouldn't mind having one in my stable.
This.
I was a fan until I saw the sticker price. Still a very nice vehicle though.

While I like the Edge, I'd go for the new Explorer Limited personally. I'd like the space and it still has the new Sync and My Ford Touch. Just checked one out today and it was $42k...

Our Edge has the Class 2 hitch package, and I believe that includes heavier duty pads and rotors. While I was driving it I certainly didn't have any complaints about the brakes.

^^ How much can the Edge tow?

I didn't think it could tow much of anything.

3,500lbs. Not bad for a crossover.

^^ thanks...like I thought....you don't buy the edge to tow.

I guess you go with the Explorer to tow...however I believe it's now a CUV with 5,000 lb towing capacity

If it can tow a pair of jet skis or a motorcycle I think that's what it would most often be used for anyways.

I believe the Escape also is rated around 3,500lbs

Nice interior. Ford has come a long way in that respect. The price, however... .

Our neighbor just traded a new-ish (2008 or 2009) MDX for some Chevy because they just got an RV and needed towing capabilities. It's too bad the MDX can't tow more.

So i was thinking the Ford Edge was a little overpriced yet i went to look at one today anyways, for the wife.

I am blown away. It felt nothing like any ford product i ever driven before. Drove the limited with the optional 20s, didnt ride rough but need to drive with the 18s to see the difference.

Engine has plenty of pep and steering felt pretty damn good. Better than any honda in the same segment. IMO

Ford mytouch is a tad confusing but im sure with more seat time it would be easy.

I didnt like the headrests on the rear seats, it blocked a good amount of view. I would take those out for sure.

So uh yea, within the next couple of months this might be the next ride.

They also had two new GT500s

This is a question for both Crazy Acura and S A CHO: I've read in some publications that the all-touch centre console gets a bit annoying after a while, because you might accidentally brush against one of the "buttons" causing it to activate something you didn't want. Have either of you noticed this? If you did, was it an issue?

Ha not trying but never know when an "oops" happens.

Just future planning, which reminds me i need to see if a stroller fits in the back of there.

Nice pick up for your Dad. I had a Flex while I was in Kansas a year ago. It was a base (rental) model, but it drove well and I liked the fit and finish.

Never had this happen, but I can definitely see how you could accidentally hit something. The buttons are very responsive so just a slight brush against would 'push' it.

Fixed. The AWD was nice and it seemed like a good vehicle if it could be had at $25K.

I always thought the choice between an M3 and a Mustang would be a laugher but then I sat in the new 2011 GT500 and am amazed to say that the Mustang might just get my money...

Nice pickup. A sweet looking Candy Red Metallic Edge Sport caught my eye as I drove by Malouf Ford in North Brunswick (NJ). It was the first time I nearly over a non-Mustang Ford product.

Alan Mulally: The Second Coming of Carlos Ghosn!! I never thought I would see the day where I actually like four or more Ford products that were/are in simultaneous production.

Good thing this thread was bumped up because just last night I took it out for the night, and wanted to comment on it some more... So read if you wish, these are my thoughts:

Maybe it's because I've been driving my (relatively) mushy Taurus for 7 years now, but every time I drive the Edge I'm amazed at how well it handles itseef around corners. The suspension is very firm, and you definitely notice the firm suspension when going around corners. Last night on my way home I took a long sweeping highway on ramp much faster than I normally do. (I was alone, and it was 2:30 in the morning). It stayed remarkably flat throughout the corner and and didn't feel at all tippy, hell I didn't feel any weight transfer what so ever - I was impressed.

I love how quiet it is too... Highway driving is as effortless as can be.

Average gas mileage is 23mpg, or 10.1 L/100km

MyFord touch is awesome -however- the screen did freeze once and the car needed to be restarted. Otherwise it's been great. Also one thing I noticed is that the USB mobile internet feature isn't functional yet, but the owners manual and on screen menu leads you to believe it is. This is a feature where you can plug in a USB mobile internet stick into one of the USB ports, then the car will become a wireless hotspot so other devices can connect to the car. We've tried with many USB sticks and none are supported, after reading the MyFord Touch forum, nobody has gotten it to work and Ford has commented that it will be activated in the next update.

Nice exhaust note...

Back seats recline...

Power liftgate - How did we live without power liftgates? Pretty standard these days in this class, but an excellent feature none the less.

Sony 10.1 surround sound is awesome... Sounds like a good home theatre system.

The keyless entry and push button start are so much better than I could have thought - makes me want the system on my Mustang. Walk up and as soon as you touch the door handle the door unlocks. You never need to touch the key.

Panoramic sunroof is awesome. Just in the last couple days have we finally been able to open it. Almost makes it feel like a convertible when it's fully open

So that's pretty much what I think about it after driving it a few times. There's not much I don't like about it to be honest... I'd have no problems recommending it to someone looking at Crossovers, I'd also have no problems driving one every day.
