Well shit. I'm a dirty fucking liar. I realized I did some other work on the truck before. Back in October, I installed the sliders that "fell off" the gray one and had been leaning against the fence in my back yard for 6 months. Passenger side went on easy as always, but driver side has some hydraulic lines to clear and is always a bit of a cuss-fest. I put that side on and off about a half dozen times. Due to OEM and Aftermarket mfg tolerances, the holes didn't quite line up and needed some grinding to fit. Can't tell on the truck, but I know what dark secrets lie beneath the washers and bolts and it feels like sin.

Also pulled out a dead plug and installed this ambient light sensor that is pre-wired but not installed on this trim from the factory. Learned this from blackack. Picked up the cheap MIC sensor from fleaBay and now my dash lights get brighter when it gets dark out. Or maybe they dim. Not sure... It's kind of a stupid mod but it felt right to get rid of the thing that did nothing and replace it with the thing that does something. Even if I'm not sure what that something is. Whatever, get off my ass, it was like $8.

I used my keychain clip to prevent the harness from falling back into the bowels of the dash. That's fuckin' smaht.

And then the rain arrives and we hastily toss all the bits, pieces, and doodads into the garage, hopeful that we'll remember where everything goes when it comes time to reinstall. Now waiting for the rain to cease. Could be next week sometime.

While I was standing there basking in my excellence as a truck modder, and in awe of the fact that it's only like 4 bolts and a shitload of plastic clips that actually holds the bumper cover on, I had a sudden thought of WWBlackAckD?
And so I got out the cleaner and a rag and wiped down all the plastic under the hood like a simp.

Straight up bitchmode. Now I feel like a real Jeepbro. All shiny and pretty, ready to hit up the Starbucks at Target.

Dude, how are the bros at the Starbucks going to know what truck that is if the front grille doesn't say "TOYOTA"????
Replace.
Immediately.
kthx.
Also, come clean under the hood of my Jeep(bro). It's full of dirt and mud, some of it likely imported from Utah.

The fuller story is that the pre-MMC 4Runner Trail package was actually designed with real use in mind. The front and rear valances, the overfenders, door handles, mirrors, etc (all the shit that gets pinstriping from scrub brush and rocks and shit) was a matte black plastic because, well, it's just gonna get fucked up anyway. These newer post-MMC Trails and TuRD Pros all come with painted plastics so in addition to being pussy, they *look* pussy too.
Now, for whatever reason in Toyota's infinite wisdom, the decided to make the front and rear valances on all of the later model post-MMC trucks this shitty silver/grey that only really looks good on silver trucks. Nothing else is that color on our truck and it looks stupid as hell. So one of the first directives I got from the Mrs was that it needed to be blacked out. Plus, that damned license plate mount needed to find Jesus in the trashcan. Granted it took a year, but now I'm doing it. Also, in the interim, Toyota started putting black valances on the TuRD Pro trims, but since it's like $HellaTooMuch, I just planned to wrap or dip mine because I'm a cheapass.
I started last weekend when I did the noodle-arm method of reaching up into the bumper from under the truck, like some sort of weird automotive prostate exam, and popped off all the clips to release the valance. I did a quarter-ass job of filling the plate mount holes and got it looking okay (from a distance). Hit it with a can and a half of plastidip and it looked pretty good. Then I dropped the fucking thing on the grass and embedded all sorts of shit in the dip; yelled "fuckinggawddammittohellmotherfuckingbitch" and pulled up fleaBay on my phone to buy the full set like I should have done in the first place.
So it showed up a week early and I pulled the front bumper cover to install the black valance that hadn't been violently penetrated against it's will by the license plate mount. While I had it off, I put in the LED fog assemblies and emblem blackout. This coming weekend I should be able to knock out the rear valance and trim blackouts and can call it quits for a little bit.

As I was doing it, I kept telling myself it was such a herp-derp move. But, truthfully, the only reason I cleaned the underhood was to be able to make the post that I did it. Self depreciating humor at it's finest. But anyway; I told the Mrs, and she scrunched up her face, sort of rolled her eyes and said "why would you do that?" in the same tone one would use if they'd found their dog had chewed up its own bed.
She knows what's up. Plastic cleaner has no purpose under the hood of a truck.

Toyota grille swap. Now.
I mean you might as well, you've already converted the rest of it to a TuRD Amateur.

would step back from that ledge, my friend.
Thanks for explaining though...it does look more rugged now.
The XC90 had that silver middle piece which I liked but it was
actually pretty rugged.

More Real G Shit™ today. Moving in silence like pasta primavera.
Dropped the ass down and popped it back up. Once you go black in the front, you need to go black in the back too.
The rear bumper cover is much more securely fastened. It's got like 12 actual bolts that hold it on with only a few plastic bitch clips. But Toyota makes them count by putting them in the inner fender where they pick up a metric shit-tonne of road grit and essentially monkeyfuck themselves into an exceptionally difficult to remove configuration. Whatever.

Yeah, I chuckle to myself each time I use that U-Haul blanket. Back in PHX, we bought a doggie door panel for our sliding patio door off Craigslist. When we picked it up, the people wrapped it in that blanket and insisted we take it. And, well, free blanket... You know gawtdamn well I took it.
2003 Accord Coupe I-4 MT. It's Mama Wagon's. She's not ready to give it up and it's very likely WagonJr will learn to drive in it. For sure.
The plumeria was an (unwanted) gift from someone and it just sat in front for years. This past year we finally decided to give it some lovin' and repotted it with some of the wonder-compost we've been making and it really liked it. So many flowers and it smells pretty nice. Not at all like ballsac.

Pretty sure I have a roll of TP in the back of the Jeep that was there as an emergency roll when I went west. I don't plan on removing it because when you gotta go, you gotta go.
It is mounted on a trail rated mechanism called wedged under the rear seat.

sure. I think I need to wait another year though, it's only got 3 branches right now and I'd like to get a little more bulk before cutting. Although, caveat: I've never tried propagating a plumeria so I'm not 100% sure of what to take. But yeah, I'm game
