cu2wagon wanted to jeepbro too - swole junk edition
Yeah, it just feels a little presumptuous to declare "OFF ROAD".
And since they don't offer a TRD WORK COMMUTE version, it just felt more honest to clean up the C-Pillar.
Plus, more real estate for stickers or flag magnets or whatever.
Tactical suction cup installation region, etc. You know. Stuff like that.

Bro, is that stuff not the shit?
I will say that lately I'm back into the over the counter plebe gold class liquid...that carnuba soaks into the paint giving a wetter look.

Yeah, it's purdy damn good. I was actually fighting the weather; got it washed, claybar'd, and then washed again. Literally finished drying the last panel and it started sprinkling just enough to cause swearing. From there I was able to dry a section and throw down a quick coat of the Wolfgang and gave it just a minute or two before wiping off. I really wanted to hit it with a couple additional coats but just ran out of time.
I might still come back in a couple weekends and hit it with another coat or that Chemical Guys Butt Wax. But that will probably be the last time I wax the truck. Probably one of the last decent washes as well. From here on out it's drive through gas station washes and post-beach spray downs.
Meanwhile, my wagon is sitting there with matte looking paint from the layers of chemical plant fallout and tree jizz from the last three years. #YOLOswag4Allah

I did the Butt the first go around on the hood only. Then hit the whole truck (including the hood) with the Wolfgang.
Honestly, I'm a noob to all this shit and was rushing to get everything sealed after the claybar. And there's so much surface area, I'm too lazy to experiment much. I've been acquiring bottles of different shit but I've gotten to the point where I'm not sure what to use when and/or why. Do I use dish soap before brake cleaner or after? Turtle Wax is the best, right? Old shitty drawers to apply product? Or paper towels?
So confusing.
I should probably just find some MM crackhead to do it.

I did finally, after decades of "taking care of" my cars, splurge on a DA buffer. Up until this point, I've been a hand job only guy.
But sheiiit. That buffer makes me highly regret not doing it sooner.
So easy button!

If you haven't yet...buy a harbor freight random orbit polisher and at least an orange and white pad...
then get a red or black to apply your waxes. Thank me later.

I spurted on the Porter Cable 7424. Got a variety of pads for it. Used the black one for applying the wax. And from what I understand, now that I've used that one, I can't go back to any others.

By the time I hit post...you had responded.
My go to easy button now:
klasse all in one on orange pad
seal it up with whatever wax on black/red pad
More in depth fixing of scratch...
megs 105 on orange
megs 205 on white
seal with wax on red/black
That's it...

IIRC you should be pretty close by. Feel free to reach you if you need any help/tips. I'm not a detailing expert by any means but I do have quite a bit of knowledge. I recently spent 14 hours bringing my neighbor's S class back to life.

More than you can borrow pal
How 'bout that. Only 13 months later and I've done something again (Oops, etc.).
Took advantage of some decent weather on Saturday and started trying to dig out the garage of shit I've stashed away. First up was pulling out the flat floor and installing the sliding tray that "fell off" my Gray truck before it got hauled off.
The floor on the red truck was missing a couple bolt hole cutouts since it didn't come with the slide-out. But Toyota is gracious enough to include the threaded holes underneath the sheet metal. So before the gray truck left, I made a template of where to drill and then used that to mark the location on the red truck, after pulling out the flat floor. I also realized I could just drop the tray frame in and mark the two hole locations... So I did that so I could marvel at my engineering prowess and precision... And found that I was way off somehow. So I sort of split the difference and started drilling. Ended up not event close to centered on the actual hole locations. But that's okay because some creative drilling with a hole embiggener made it all work out. A quick spritz of rust-oleum in a non-matching color and we're off to the races.

Installed the "fell off" floor carpet, sliding frame, tray, and cubby/filler piece behind the seats, and the back of this truck is back to good.

Still had some time and nice weather (and beer) so I dug out a box with some fancy pants lighting for the hatch. Arclights, I think the company is called, or something. Anyway, LED boards with a switch that changes it from white to red lights. Depending on if you're hauling or whoring. Getting loads to taking loads. That sort of thing.
Anyway, pretty straight forward, pop out the old lights, replace the board, plug it in and wonder why it doesn't work.
Is it the Off/Door/On position switch? Maybe it needs to be in position 1. Okay, maybe position 2? Dafuq? Three is off. Whythefuckisnththisworking? I bought this too long ago that the guy probably will just laugh at me if I say it was DOA. Wait LEDs are polarity sensitive... Turn it around. Oh, it works.
Mark and drill the lense for the red/white switch. Luckily, I also had a set of lenses that "fell off" the grey truck, so I used those.

LEDs in their white powered on.

LEDs in their red powered on.

Kept going inside the cab. When I had the gray truck, I swapped out the giant rubber shifter for a trick TRD leather unit. And the wife took one look at it and was like, "I hate it". So I swapped the giant rubber one back in.
Flashforward to the red truck which came with that same TRD shifter stock, and I thought, well, since she hated that in the gray truck, I'll swap it out with the giant rubber one when it "falls off". So that's what I did.
And then the wife took one look at it and was like,"oh, I love it, this is the one that it liked from the old truck!" "I hate it". So, like, fuck me... right? Putting the TRD leather one back in today.

Popped out the switch blank and installed the Party Mode switch. Toyota stopped making party mode at some point. And that's some serious bullshit. This switch doesn't do anything now, but I'll be gawtdamned if I'm not going to have a Party Mode switch, especially since this one "fell off" the grey truck.

This is a weird thing... I had the gray truck for like, 8 years, and never noticed this little elastic strap in the glove box. It's not there in the red truck and doesn't show up on Toyota's parts list anymore. I only found it on the gray one when all that shit was "falling off" so whatever, now it's in the red truck. Not even sure what it's for, but it's there.

So that's the end of my Wangler mods for the weekend. Probably covers the whole year, as lazy as I am.
