CTSV or Corvette
CTSV or Corvette
I'm planning to buy a car within the next six months to commute about 200 miles a day by myself. Practically nobody would be riding with me for work purposes. The TLs (wife's car) has been exciting, but I want pure performance (i.e., smoke the tires are 50mph if wanted) with a bit of 35 year old restraint. Anything under 350 h.p seems lame as this point... I've always "settled" for something less than the top.
First of all Acura has nothing to offer, but the new RL may be an option if under $43K. I really want power... screw quality after the transmission replace on a 2003 TL.
The 2005 Vette and the CTSv both offer a 400 h.p. engine for about the same dollars. The CTSv may be about 3 grand more, but it is plush. However, the Vette has the new LS2 engine... better gas mileage, better handling.
Which car would you pick?
Thanks

You cannot lose with either. I like the CTS-V, aside from the three spoke steering wheel. I am a four spoke man. Dealer installed cross drilled rotors available for the V, too.
Just be sure to have them remove or relocate the On*Star antenna.

If you are looking for pure performance, Corvette hands down. I'd like to see a CTSv pull a full G on the skid pad or keep up with a vette in the 1/4. I know they are quick but it's not going to be close with the vette.

The only thing i don't understand is why drop that much money on a car that will be driven 200 miles a day
do u really want to drive 200 miles a day in a vette or any sports car?
unless your on pristine highways, you've got conflicting interests there.
for 200 miles a day, you'll be out of warranty in no time, i would look at something like a used benz or lexus, something that will eat those miles up in no time and give you some luxury during ur commute.
in a 200 mile commute with a vette, i'd lose my license in no time...

I'd go with the Vette..With it's new interior, it makes the world of a difference from the C5 to C6. But like Arn said, I don't know why you would buy such an expensive car to put so much mileage on it, I'd get something cheap and powerful, like an Evo or WRX

I understand the new 2005 Vette gets 28mph on the highway... The 4 cycle, 145 h.p. Accord only gets 33!
I want something to run 160 mph plus in the "open" parts of the commute.
And they pay Jeff Gordan, Dale Jr. and the rest of the gang millions of dollars to run at less speeds for ONLY 500 miles on the weekend!
man, 200 miles a day and you actually considered the vette as an option, your ass is gonna hurt like shit.... the CTS gas mileage is 16 & 25, the corvette is 19 & 28 (surprised the shit out of me), but for the fact that you will be driving a lot, I would go with the caddy because it is more comfortable for ya....
corvette = leafsprings, but still a powerful nehicle, if I had that much money to spend in a sportcar, that is definety my first choice, good luck with your decision.... keep us posted...

If you go with the 2 choices, i'd get the C5, it looks better and it is more flashy. The CTS is an ugly piece of shit from our current "WTF Were They Thinking Car Design" decade along with the Aztec, Avalance and other shitty cars. To me the C5 looks like a german supercar more than the corvette. If you are driving over 200 miles a day, I would never even consider either, i'd get an STI.

My dad has a C5 and while it's a BITCHIN car I don't think I could have it as an everyday driver. The CTS-V on the other hand could definately be a DD
However, I am still thinking of replacing my CL w/ a C5. But that new Dodge Magnum is hot too. The only thing is I'd have to get the FRC C5 and the trunk space is pretty limited. It's just not tall enough for all my detailing supplies for when i go out on mobile calls. But that's what the girlfriends car is for

My trunk comparison is also w/ my dads Vert, I haven't actually seen the trunk on the FRC but I assume it's NO different then the vert w/ the top up.

since when are C5's or C6's expensive? You can buy a C5 used for like 25K and the C6's are gonna be mid 40's. Doesn't seem like expensive car to be a daily driver

the CTSV is HOT!
Hmm... Treat yourself
Prof...
You've always wanted a 'Vette. We all have. You're entitled to a mid-life crisis. You've earned it. You deserve it.
The CTS-V will out perform (marginally) a standard C5 because the Cad has the engine from the Z06 and manual tranny.
The C6 is a horse of a different color (and power). But figure $50Gs. They won't be discounting them for a while.
The Cad styling doesn't have legs. It is too off the wall to last. The 'Vette will always be in style. Like a good wine, it will age gracefully. It will also keep its value better.
You'll get more (you know!) with the 'Vette, too. It reeks of testosterone/pheremones.

My commute is 150 miles. I think the comfort and luxury of a sedan is the way to go. The CTS-V is an impressive machine. Definitely not a sleeper - when you see one in person it is immediately clear that this is not grandpa's Cadillac. For 50K+, I would also look at the C55 AMG.
If you want a comfortable, reliable, high-speed commuter, I suggest the following:

Not bad for a 'dated' design, eh? I think it still looks better than the C6. YMMV.
