crazy 18 wheeler crash

Got this from another forum i'm on....pretty insane, made me short of breath when i watched the video

In Edmonton, a semi-truck driver was driving the wrong way on a major highway for 20 km or more and then crashed and then the truck blew up.

Here is a news story with video of the crash:

http://canwest.a.mms.mavenapps.net/m...3-5c3c9b9d2f3b

And here is the news article from the Edmonton Journal:

Giberson's white BMW 650i convertible was one of those cars. Last fall, she and her husband paid $134,000 for the BMW

Do they really cost that much???

That sucks! As of right now the USD is slightly higher than the CAD plus you have to pay more!

the driver was a type 1 diabetic, and they are going on the assumption that he was having some sort of episode. And apparently he has had problems with it before, gotta love that he could drive a truck with this condition! I dont know if they have a similar law in the great white north, but here you can't get a DOT medical card if you are diabetic.....well unless you happen to know the nurse that performs the test. I hope thats not the case for their sake.

In the province of Alberta a class 1 (any motor vehicle including heavy truck) requires a full medical on application and renewal. A medical is required every five years up to the age of 45, every two years from 45-65 years of age, and yearly for drivers over 65 year of age.

you have to get a medical every 5 years for your license renewal?

If under the age of fourty-five, in the province of Alberta. Not entirely sure how it works in the rest of Canada, but I imagine it's standardized to a degree.

no medicals in Ontario for license. But if you have a condition that could limit your ability to, by LAW your doctor has to inform the MTO

Keep in mind this is only for a class 1 license. A class 5 required for a basic motor vehicle doesn't require a medical, unless you suffer from a condition that may impair your ability to safely operate a car.

Im guessing that Class 1 is the same as our class A license, it allows you to drive anything but a bus unless you carry a passanger endorsment, only here we have to have a physical every 2 years not 5. Here a class D is a passanger car license, and you dont need any kind of medical card for it

You dont need to have a medical card to renew your commercial driver's license.....but you better have one when they pull you over, its one of the things they will ask for along with the license and registration

Preliminary autopsy results now show the driver was NOT suffering from a diabetic episode.
