CPO search only reveals former rentals

Hey guys

My sister has a second kid on the way and is in search of getting a CPO Explorer, or new gen Edge. Every certified car she finds on autotrader is either a former rental, or a corporate fleet car. Ford I am trying to help her, but it looks like you need to click on every listing and pull up the carfax to determine the status. The first 40 2015 Ford Edge certified listings all reveal a carfax that states rental or fleet. Obviously, she wants to find a car that has no history of abuse.

Is there any software, or some ford website, that allows you to filter through all of this crap (non rentals/fleet cars)? Like a toggle that lets you check the box?

I appreciate the help. I know there are some Mustang guys on the forum, so perhaps this would be a helpful thread for others trying to weed through 95% or the garbage.

Thanks!

Thanks! That works. You cant see what's used vs certified on carfax, but at least you get to shed off most of the fat, and get a few non-rental VINs to work with.

Amazing that almost every 1-3 yr old Ford for sale is a rental car. Outside of Carfax, most car search engines are actually quite misleading, as they are all former rental/fleet cars with ~$10k less in asking price. I am surprised Ford even allow these cars to be certified, and happily list them as a clean certified cars. Only the carfax data will tell you otherwise.

Corporate Fleet does not mean it's been abused necessarily.

I would avoid rentals but not fleet.

Also, ping Shoofin. Leasing is what he does ... He'll be able to help you find a used car that's not been trashed. He might even know of a lease coming back to him that your sister could pick up from one of his customers. And, he's in Long Island.

I have a corporate fleet vehicle, it gets oil changes every 5k miles at the dealership, and whatever service required at the intervals. All our cars are very well maintained and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one out. I don't think i'd shy away for corp fleet car. Rental I'd stay away from.

Yeah, my work's fleet vehicles are maintained regularly. I wouldn't be bothered by that. Rental could be sketchy business, but even then, you know they're maintained somewhat.

Corporate fleet here too, they track our mileage via fuel cards and send us angry emails when we don't get service done on time so it is done. I take good care of mine, despite not paying for it

^ When I was working for Chevrolet in college, we bought a lot of former Hertz loaded Malibus. Granted, they all had barely over 5k on them, so there wasn't anything wrong with them.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a former rental, but my neighbor is on his 3rd former Hertz car with no issues.

Anecdotal, but my old Fusion is listed online and the AutoCheck lists it as "Fleet, Rental and/or Lease". Clearly it was a personal lease. That classification makes it sound like it wasn't. Not sure if this is what your sister was running into, but just wanted to put it out there.
