Exclamation Convince me...Infiniti G37 or...

Hey everyone...

2003 Acura TL Type-S owner since 2005. 82,000k and counting, original transmission and no major problems anywhere thus far.

Lately, I am thinking it is time to upgrade. I want to sell the car while it is still worth a decent amount. It is been kept in near mint condition, and I have babied it since I became the owner. I love the Acura family, and this community here especially, but the release of the 4th gen TL truly dissapointed me.

However, I love the new TSX and am excited for the V6, but I am thinking about going for something else.

So, all you enthusiasts out there who know alot more than me. This thread is to post your opinions on what you like and dislike about the G37 compared to its Acura competition and the like.

I appreciate all input and feedback. Thanks everyone.

new? used? budget?

drove a G35x loaner the other day. not sure what year it was but I definitely like my wife's 335xi more. i know the G37 has more hp so that may help but the feel of driving (especially around corners) was def better in the 335

^^Plus the BMW has a couple turbos if you want to play around a little bit. Very easy to get some extra horses if you want to.

If your thinking about G37's. Slightly used (less than 50k miles) 06-07 mercedes CL500/550 wouldn't be a bad choice.

The G37 is a little louder-- intentionally, with exhaust rumble- than the 3G TL. I tested a 6-speed manual about a month ago and was really bothered by the constant shifter vibration regardless of car/engine speed.
The G37 also runs at higher revs@ freeway speeds than the TL, which probably explains the higher real-world fuel consumption by the G.
However, I haven't tested an auto trans G37.

Otherwise, the 3G TL's Navi-equipped interior still seems more refined and well-integrated than the G37's interior.

Infiniti all the way....

I had an 03 G35 coupe. traded it off for an 06 TL. I hated the TL, shifted like crap, steering was sloppy, suspension was way to soft, brakes sucked, but the seat was comfortable.

I traded the 06 TL off after 3 months for an 04 G35 Coupe 6MT

There is no comparison... Infiniti's are much more of an enthusiasts car. 1,000 times more fun to drive.

so are we talking G37 sedan or coupe?

regardless, i'd go with the G37 over the V6 TSX. one main reason is i think it looks better inside and out, but that's subjective.

and the infiniti comes with a pad in the first aid kit.

That 2G TLS trans is very iffy at best! I just sold mine with the exact mileage as yours, and the original trans failed, and the re-manufactured one I was given had already started to 2-3 shimmy! Get rid of it! As for what you should get next, I got a 335I, and I love it. variety is the spice of life. I passed on the Gas hog G37. I also got an Audi A6, and heavily considered, but didn't end up with a G, on both new car purchases. Goodluck!

that is a very good point. I was talking about G37 Coupe. If we are talking about G37 Sedan then I would rather get 08 TL-S.

That's for the Honda converts who get injured by the VQ's torque.

I had the chance to sit inside a G37 a few days ago. I didn't get to drive it, but I spent some time inside the cabin to check out the inside. My first impression is that, no matter how good it drives, if I were to be getting a luxury sports sedan (or sports luxury sedan), the G37 definitely won't be my choice.

The moment and I opened the door, there's something wrong to me. The door handle...it felt cheap that if my eyes were covered, I'd have thought that's a Honda Fit or something. Then I got inside, sat down, closed the door. And there's another problem, I didn't expect a car with some emphasize on luxury would sound like that when closing the door. It sounded so...hollow....and you are reading a post from a guy who drives an old 2002 TL.

Then the interior, when I was browsing pictures online of the G37, the interior seemed like a vast improvement from the 1g G. May be that's true, because I had never been in a 1st G35 before. But the inside in the G37 coupe was just....surprising...in a bad way...the materials looked cheap to me....I touched them..and they were hard....I had a chance to sit inside a brand new Mazda3 too (because I went to the AutoShow), and honestly, the Mazda3 actually felt more "luxurious" than the G37. At least things felt softer inside and looked more expensive. The faux metallic parts (or whatever they are called) were awful, I don't know if they did it on purpose or what, but they looked all scratched up.

So that's my little review on the interior and the overall feel of the G37. I guess it's actually a good car, but I think I expected too much since most people here say there's significant improvement in materials and quality.

I loved my 05 TL but would have bought a g35 coupe any day over the TL IF i didnt need the back seat. The G is so much more fun to drive, sounds bad ass, and is just great looking. That being said, the interior still could use an upgrade and IMO doesn't compare to the TL.

The same thing is true with the 335i IMO, great exterior style, fun to drive, sounds pretty bad ass (not as nice as the G but still has a nice note) but the interior on it is so ugly. I just can't stand the tiny buttons on the console, the sharp edges, and the goofy cupholders that pop out of the passenger side dash. Every bimmer I have ever been in looks the same inside reguardless of the year. I just don't get it, why dont they update it?

After all that I would get a 335i convert because this is the first 3 I have ever liked and the hardtop convertible makes it oh so nice. Handling and performance seem on par with the G, plus BMW maintence is included now

Edit - thinking about it, I really like the looks of the g35c over the g37c, wierd

I dont know what kind of G37 you sat in. But my door is not "hollow"... at least more "non-Hollow" than anything Acura has to offer.

u wanna hear "hollow"? try RDX

If you are looking at a sedan, do you carry ppl around in the back often?

We briefly looked at a G37 while looking for our new car, and the rear seats = fail.

Um, no idea what you are talking about as far as the "hollow" door sound. Also, the only hard plastic in my interior is on the center console area by the parking brake (and the bottom of the doors). Everything else is soft-touch material. Btw, the "faux" metallic parts are actualy REAL aluminum. The "scratches" are part of the washi finish and look very good to me (though opinions vary). I had an 04 TSX and I would say that the G37 interior is as good if not better than the TSX (and the TSX had one of the better interiors IMO).....

Eh, I agree about the G's interior...its a pretty big letdown. I used to work at Infiniti and drove those things god knows how many times...and the interior never did a thing for me. Its pretty boring design wise, but even getting into the details is a let down. The knobs/switches are straight from the Nissan recycling bin (radio dials etc..) , the cheap chrome door handles/locks, roof lining, plastic "oh shit" handles, hard plastic around the lower center stack, and the aluminum "washi" interior....The only thing I really liked was the steering wheel.

JJaber obviously Infiniti's aren't for us....lol...at least at this moment..........

Anyways, that hollow sound or interior quality problem does not exist in the QX56 that I also had a chance to sit in. Now that thing is huge, but I must say it's very nice inside. Everything is soft (well I didn't spend too much time inside) and looks nice to me. It definitely feels like a luxury car.

Time for the obligatory pimp job:

Take a look at a 09 Subaru Legacy GT Spec B. Very nice performance, can me modded a lot, nice interior, and fun as hell to drive. Just a thought.

In the Coupe area, have you looked at the Hyundai Genesis Coupe? Those look really nice.

Ironically, that is the one Infiniti which has had a few quality issues since its debut.

Why aren't we talking about a 370Z?!?

Because it doesn't have back seats? Who is going to want to sit in the back of a G37 for more than three minutes anyway

You drive a 2G TL and you seem most concerned by "Hard surfaces"?
The G37 interior isn't the best out there, but it's far from a let down and leap years ahead of the last G. I certainly wouldn't buy an Acura over an Infiniti just because the interior is a little nicer...

I own an Acura, but have driven a G37S for weeks at a time and it will most likely be my next car for multiple reasons. (honorable mention to the 328 ht vert and the S2000)
