Consequences of Street Racing

Last night, I was on my way home, and I happened to have involved in a street racing in local street. It was very late so there weren't any cars around. 3 of us were stopped at the red light and everyone seemed very tired.. but we were on from 0-maybe 90? As we were going, we passed an undercover cop.........
One person turned right very fast, other guy U-turned (running red light..), and I just stopped at the next red light. Yes, the undercover was right behind me but didn't pull me over. He was behind me for maybe a minute and just took off very fast. Do I have to worry about getting a traffic ticket from him? or not? Can he ticket me through the mail even though he didn't pull me over? I'm worried.. no more worthless races on local roads.. Please, don't flame me!! I have already regretted it and not going to do that again!

Thank you!

The judge is probably wringing his hands and signing the warrant for your arrest as we speak.

If the cops were behind you then they got your plate number... no question. Something may happen depending on if the cop followed through with the paperwork or not...

However, a lot of you guys have different opinions.. I don't know which one is the real deal. I think juniorbean's comment is right... dang.. I should have done it.

If he didn't get you then, you may be okay, but a lot of cops now are carrying around video camera's in the high SR areas of So Cal.

penalties are high and they can seize your car as well.

Personally though, I think you are fine, since he didn't pull you over, he has no proof who was driving, etc. If something does escalate a good lawyer shouldn't have a hard time getting you off.

I'm not sure. If he didn't pull you over, couldn't you just say you weren't driving? I think he'd have to prove that it was you, which would be very hard.

First, thank you for your comment. Even if he had a camera, I don't think he got me racing on his camera because he was pulling out from a mall on the right side of road. He caught up to my car very slowly after he came out to the street. However, even though he didn't pull me over, I am sure he, in person, knows that we were racing. (strictly my thoughts only)

I am so scared now..

yeah, I wouldn't worry, llike other said, since the cop didn't pull you over to check your license, how would he know it was he behind the wheel? If you do get something, just say it wasn't you, and get a lawyer.

I bet the cop was contemplating whether if he should pull you over or go after the others, I guess he decided to go after others... since you are the "good" one

Yeah.. I should just relax for now.. If something happens, then I guess I have to deal with it since it's all my fault.

I think your in the clear. If he wanted you, he would have had you then. Even if he was going to go after others after he got your plates, someone would have been knocking on your door last night if they were going to persue a case against you.

My guess would be he ran your plates...since nothing came up, he didn't bother. Regardless, he didn't pull you so you're fine.

They can't prove it was you driving. The cop just added you to his shit list. If he sees your car and it matches his "black list" it will be an automatic impound, aiding and abetting, illegal speed contest, etc etc..

You got real lucky.

In California if you are caught street racing its pretty bad. They would impound his car, take him to jail, its not just a ticket...

I think some of you guys need to face REALITY about the whole "he has to prove who was driving" thing.

All he has to say is "Tell me who was driving your car at that time, or you're under arrest for hindering prosecution." If you plead the fifth, then they will fuck you just to make an example out of you... like impounding your car and the paperwork mysteriously disappears.
