Which Compact Crossover for the GF?
Great input guys!
She was in town this past weekend so we went on a few test drives:
1) Hyundai Santa Fe: She likes it, but it is priced pretty much the same as others so she'd rather stick to better established makes like Honda/Toyota. If the price point was lower, she would consider.
2) Mazda CX-7: Likes the look/design, but the sloping rear hatch doesn't leave much room for cargo, especially any tall objects she may need to tote around. She didn't even want to drive it.
3) Subaru Forester: Dealership closed on a Saturday. They must be doing pretty well to be closed on Saturday.
4) Honda CR-V: Everything about this one was great except for the seats. Both of us found the seats to be too firm and the seat cushions to be very thin. She travels quite a bit for work and personally so the CR-V is out.
5) Toyota Rav4: She finds this to be much more compliant for her long trips. I didn't like the 4-speed auto transmission like csmeance mentioned. However, EPA rates it to get slightly better gas mileage than the CR-V and CX-7.
We ran out of time so the others have to wait. Right now, she has it narrowed down to the Rav4 and the Mazda5. Where the hell did the 5 come in the picture? She got that as her rental for a week. She likes the size, efficiency, and utility of the 5, and the sliding doors makes it easier for her to get her 3-year old in and out. It's a mini-minivan.
In the end, she doesn't want to spend too much money and only wants a very basic car with A/C and power windows & locks. She'll end up getting a nice car later down the road.
