Cold weather starts

What is the right way to start a car in cold weather?
Start it then drive right away or let it run for awhile, and how long?
Thanks

Let it idle for 30-60 sec, then run it softly until warm.

like teranfon said, it depends on how cold it is.

most (if not all) modern vehicles say they can (and should?) be driven like after a very brief warmup or none at all (30sec i guess would be brief) and their reasoning is it's better to warm the oil up quicker than it is to let it warm up slowly for a long time while idling. I guess it has a lot to do with the oil viscosities and quality we have now compared to maybe 15-20 years ago that may not have been able to resist very cold temps.

personally, i'll warm the car up for a minute or so if its in the 30s or below, but because i can't feel my fingers unless I sit on them for a minute.
