Its a disappointment in any vehicle you purchase and get issues in before 5K... In all as long as the automaker stands by its product, and eliminates the headaches you should be fine. Its a pain, but sadly nothing you can do, except complain and make trips to the dealer.

It's disappointing for any car, yes, but if you buy a $100,000 car it is more embarrassing.

I'm curious to know how these people break in their AMG's

Funny that the guy on mbworld was told to basically drive the hell out of it when my dad was told to "baby it" for 1000 or so miles.

Dads car = 1 problem (dead battery from him never driving it )
Other guys car = loads of problems

You can't break anything when you never drive it, can you?

Umm, besides the tanny complaint which could be his fault, I doubt everyone having their ESP fail as well as active headlights or whatever it is, is due to improper breakin.

Its got 7,000 miles on it......after 29 months

And we've had other MB's that never had any problems (except for the 94 E320 that MB stopped 6 months later because it was a huge problem). I put around 30,000 on my c-class and had 0 problems with it.

I didn't see the ESP/active headlights in the thread but heard about the CLS having problems with ESP.

I do agree with whomever above said to not buy a 1st year MB or any other brand. Surprisingly enough, the worst car (as far as problems go) that our family ever owned was a Lexus. Problems with the tranny, battery, security system, navigation system, etc.

Looks like most issues with Benz nowadays is mainly electronic gremlins (like Jaguar of the '80's). They need a better supplier in the electronics department.

I have a hard time taking anyone seriously on stuff like this when they have zero comprehension of the English language. It didnt' sound like he is foreign either, just sounds completely uneducated. How is this guy driving a $100,000 car? Does he know how to break it in, take care of it? The guy can't spell 'tried' or 'reverse', I don't think I trust his opinions of a brand new luxury car.

Not saying the problems aren't real, looks like others are having trouble too. Next time buy an nsx.

In the larger scope of things, spelling is overrated... growing up, I was always really anal about spelling - even in college - it's how I was brought up - entered countless spelling bees, I wasn't to the point of correcting ppl all the time - that would be annoying - I was just very wary about it. But seriously, it's small stuff - and does not necessarily indicate anything about intellect... there are geniuses who couldn't spell worth a dime. For instance, I know a heart surgeon that SUCKS at spelling and he knows it and he doesn't care...

[/off-topic]

I don't think it's a question of breaking the car in... honestly from the posts over there, it seems like it could turn into a recall... when you got safety devices such as headlights involved... yeah.

My friend's father has a new CLS500, not the 55 model though.

From what I have heard, he has been having a bunch of problems as well (mainly electrical). They had a 3 year old S-Class with a number of problems (air suspension kept going out). The MB dealer assured them their problems were ironed out in the newest models, but it got even worse from their experience. They said this is their last MB.

If its a tough word thats not phonetic, fine... but I'd imagine even your heart surgeon knows how to make 'try' past tense...

Good Job Mercedes a worse dependability ranking than Mistubishi, Nissan and Hyundai. And all their cars cost thousands more.

honestly I'm surprised to see Porsche so damn high up - and they've been up.... I mean here you have a carmaker known for making highly desirable sports cars, not dependable cars... Kudos to Porsche.

Cause how many high-milage Porsches do you see? Most are weekend toys. And actually, if you look at the Cayannes, I believe those had tons of problems.

Its the same thing with Buicks, they usually don't see rediculously high mileage as most are driven by grannys, so they don't have many problems.

(this is just my take on it and I could be completely wrong)

I really don't know how JD Power and Associates get their information to put together rankings for these cars, but the ones that I assumed were at the top of the list don't even make the industry average.

Good job Mercedes for letting yourself get ranked below Ford, Saturn, Pontiac, Buick, Hyundai, and GMC.

To be honest I think Chrysler has a lot to do with their poor ranking, and quality issues because doesn’t Chrysler own a part of Mercedes and works closely with them in the production of some of their cars?

nothing would piss me off more than buying a car and having a dealer act like a complete ass--especially when the car cost 100K plus.

thank you!

Sounds like a someone who came into $$. Most of those issues suck but they aren't major. I agree I don't think he knows how to take care of it...

And I didn't see the post where he explains he tried to get MB to fix it and they didn't.

Lots of hot air in that thread, VERY little direction.

MB ISN'T as bad as all of the guys on here would like to depict it. You have COMPLETLY left out that his car is a 1st year model. It's going to have some minor issues... The 1st year list of issues on my CLS smokes his minior problems...
