it is a clear aluminum. look up transparent aluminum.

This is what I found

"Transparent Aluminum:
according to this recent article entitled "Glass breakthrough," transparent aluminum (or aluminate glass) was created from aluminum oxide. it's stronger than glass and steel."

so is it one solid piece, or like invisible five stars?
can see it being practical, you'd have to take off your rims to clean both sides right?!

After reading some of those articles, I'm gonna say

Those rims would probably cost about the same as what the Z cost (if not more). Ain't no way a ricer is going to have rims made of invisible alum. when the gov't is still researching it...

It took 30 years for microwave oven technology to transfer form military to civilian uses, and I don't think a discovery like invisible alum. would be used on a 350Z before being used by the military...

It's gotta be a photochop...

same here

look at the front wheel, that looks like a chop. The wheel is too forward and is that even the type of caliper that is used on the Z?

Im going to have to agree with him on this one. Even though I have heard nothing about this, I cant imagine (based on the description) that these things are cheap.

would have been cooler if it had no rivets... that way, when the car was moving, it would look like the wheels were standing still!!!

and, ppl love that look. thx

I was hoping by searching through the 350z forum, I could get some answers.. but even they dont have a clue.. and most importantly, the source of the photo.

Could it possibly just a show wheel made out of lexan?

Not meant for road use?

If its not a chop, the front left tire still has the sticker on the tread

p-shop or not I love the idea. All except the fact that a full faced wheel is murder on your rotors.

I just examined the picture. It is a p-shop. If you look at picture #1 along the wheelbase you can see where it has been blurred. This is usually done to remove any lines left over from a imperfect cut and paste or clone. In picture #2 you can clearly see a thin black line on the wheelbase. This was also done to clean up the line between the car and the ground.

My guess is that this car was up on jack stands and the wheels were removed in order to expose the brakes. They took a picture of the car with the wheels on it at the same angle so they could have tires to cut and paste from.

Good idea, but they shoulda got me to do the chop

neg. it's a 350z front caliper. compare with the rear caliper - it does LOOK like a rear caliper - thank Nissan for that - but it's a front caliper.. as far as whether the pics are photo-shops... I dunno... they look quite convincing to me. the blurring you see might just be because of the jpg compression, it's hard to say.

check these pics of other 350z's, regarding the front calipers:

apparently it was a photochop posted by someone on a 350z forum about a year ago...

I believe it's a photochop, because it has to be - I looked everywhere and no sign of these "clear" wheels.... anywhere. if it was true, they would have been all over the place... show cars, etc. damn nice photochop.

Thanks for clearing that up. Man that looks a lot like a rear caliper.

Its definately a ps though. Save it, open it and pixelize the area in question.

As stated above:

Take picture of car
Take picture of car on jackstands at same angle (no wheels to expose brakes)
Superimpose wheels on picture of car on jackstands
Remove area of the superimposed wheel you do not want (face of the wheel)
Slightly darken the removed area of the wheel to make it look like glass
Clone the ground under the car to erase jackstands
Clean up wheelbase of the car where jackstands were

Clear wheels.

If it's a photo chop they went to amazing levels. You'll notice the reflection of the wheel from the Scion in the background on the right rear. Which is at the perfect angle...

You can also see a reflection of the trees in the other wheels.

I also wonder what the yellow sticker on the tire is for on the front left.

Impressive photoshop if it is one...

Totally incorrect.

It took 1 year after discovering microwaves *by accident* (1946) that the 1st microwave was commercially available (1947).

The microwave has been around for 50+ years. Making it even older than you

...a beautiful hypothesis destroyed by a single ugly fact.

Maybe I should have said that it took 30 years for them to become common household appliances...
