Chrysler 300M

I've been wanting to ask this for awhile, but I keep forgetting... Anyway, I keep seeing these ads (TV and Magazines), the 300M claims to have the highest H.P. in it's class (250H.P.), well... what class is it in? If it's in the same class as our TL-S (260) Infinity's G35 (260), and Nissan Maxima (255)... how is it the highest?

It has the highest horsepower in its class because its in the senior citizen class with the Buicks. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want my grandma having 250hp.

Well ya, cuz those other cars are fullsize, like the cop cars, and crown victoria.. and they are longer and etc.. and our TL's are not Full Size and they are Entry Level Luxury Car..

I looked up the 300M Weight and its almost similar to the TL.. I could've swore the 300M would weigh MORE.. The 300M is so much longer, wider, and fatter and it looks weigh BIGGER..

you're right... but to me... I never saw the 300M that much bigger... I went and found this info:

300M wheel base-113in. vs. 108.1-TL
overall length-197.8 vs. 192.5
width-74.4 vs. 70.7
height- 55.5 vs. 53.7

to me... it might be about 5 inches longer, but the way I look at it is... it's about 2.5 inches each end. About 2 inches each side (which is wide, I have to admit). I just never considered it a full size...

Then again, if you think about it... a full size car that's got less H.P. than a "mid size" TL-S (or G35 or Maxima) NOT very impressive if you ask me...

That's why most car commercials are aimed at people that don't know much about cars...aka old/females and a few males/young person/etc who falls for the sales pitch.

You know not everyone cares about the hp. The 300M is a nice car, especially the special edition model (has carbon fiber dash). With 250 hp, it has plenty of hp for its buyers. A person in a BMW M3 doesn't look at a TL and say it is bigger, it SHOULD have more hp than my M3. Certain cars sell to certain demographics. I for one like the 300M. I have driven them, they are smooth, large without feeling to big, and somewhat sporty feeling all at the same time. Is it the best sports sedan out there? Of course not, but it is a really nice car that does exactly what it is supposed to do.

Don't get me wrong... I actually like the design of the 300M, in fact it was one of my considerations before buying my TL-S (though, I never got to test drive one). At the same time... I don't mean to disregard what you just said about H.P., but I guess since everyone's "upping" the "ponies" like the Caddy CTS which will have an optional V8 in the future, Chrysler is suppose to drop a V8 in the 300M as well... AND I believe it will be a RWD car. Again, I actually like the car... just wasn't sure what class it was in. I have, yet... to see one with some aftermarket wheels though... it would be interesting to see.

I saw a Black one parked, I think it was lowered and had some nice RIMS.. MAN :wow: IS ALL I GOTTA SAY.. It was nice.. Proves to the fact that even a UGLY Car can become a Beautiful one if you spend aftermarket money on it, now Im just wondering how much money a 2003 Accord Sedan Owner has to spend to make it beautiful , thats gonna take a lot of work..

Is it just me... or do you guys also see a little Saab, when you see the Accord sedan from the back? I guess the lights or something... I don't think any aftermarket parts' going to make that back look better.

Well I used to lease a 300M for 3 years. I am leasing a 2002 TL-S now but I miss my 300M a lot. It was a great car. Engine had a lot of power, but the tranny was not geared for best 0-60 results. At high speeds it had a very strong pull. Mine had the performance handling package and was great in the curves. Very comfortable interior. Lots of space. Great car.

It goes through slalom at a pretty high speed - 63+mph and pulls 0.81g on skidpad. That's a normal 300M. One can have 300M with Performance Handling Package which will produce better numbers. And if that's not enough - 300M Special is amazing

Sup guys.

I am considering getting an 2002 300M w/ the Performance package.

I am considering trading in my 2004 WRX for it.

Why?

Well b/c the WRX by all means is a fun A$$ car, but its just to small. Not just for me, but sometimes when my family of 4 wants to go out to the mall, but not take our Expedition out, we tend to drive the WRX. My son complains he does not get enough room in the back (He is 8 yrs old) and my daughter is still a baby.
Since I only drove one 300M I figure its an nice car, but not to sure about saying its worth saying good by to the AWD WRX for it. But I would love the extra room and comfort level the 300M has to offer. Plus at the END... my payments will be a lot less on it and shorter finance term to. I think it would be wise, but I dunno.... I figure I ask here before I bite the bullet on one.

Yes... I know I will not be running a 6 seconds flat on the 300M as I would in my WRX, but I am not into racing anymore

Hello, welcome to 2002

I can help you I had a 00 300M with the PHP

It's not a bad car, did have alot of room. It was too big for me. It had plenty of power. It's not fast, but there is power. The car is heavy, & the FWD tranny saps alot of power. That same engine is in the new 300 limited & it feels alot quicker.
Something about Chrysler at this time. They started to strip stuff off the 300M starting in 2002. Things like headrests, engine covers, they changed the radio, trip computer, trim, stuff like that. They also fudged the HP numbers. Went from 255, to 252, then back to 254. If you can find a 2001 that was the best year. Also good luck finding a 300M with the PHP(PHG) option. If you can get a 300M Special. They are better versions I think of the standard 300M. They also have HID lights on some models.
For problems, I didn't have many. I put 48K miles on mine in 2 years. Speed sensor, & belt tensioner went. Had some weather striping problems, & that was about it.

Umm...fwd doesnt sap as much power as a driveshaft and rear differential. But it does suck with regards to launching.

True but I was surprised that a 300M which had only 10hp less and weighed at most 100 lbs more than a CL-S seemed much slower. Nonetheless they are reliable cars and fairly comfortable. The stock stereo is also much better than the one in the CL-S.

The earlier 300M's were POS ('99 - '00), but the '01's and up they worked out the kinks and are pretty reliable. You can pick them up cheap so they're not bad for the $$$.

Trust me on this....
The FWD tranny in the 300M SAPS power. It has to do with the way the engine is mounted. The engine is mounted like a standard V6 not side ways like a normal FWD car. The tranny is turned 180 degrees to mate to the engine. This turn is what creates this loss in power.
The same engine & tranny is in the Prowler. Except it's setup straight & is RWD. While still slow, it has alot more pull them the 300M.
The tranny also has wide spacing.

They all are fine, just be warned that the later models don't have the same features as the older ones. DC cut costs on the car. Unless you get the special.,which is overall a better 300M model.
