Changing mind

I was originally thinking about getting an 2004 Acura TL but , I think I might just go with either the Lt or LTZ Monte Carlo 2006, maybe even a 2006 Monte Carlo SS. The reason why, is because my parents have a 96' LS w/ a 3.1 liter. And I know the Monte has power. I have been up to 115 mph on the intersate and the funny thing is , is that I didnt have it pedal to the metal. The Acura TL is a great car but I bet a LS 06' could easily keep up with it. I could either go w/ a 3.5 LS , or a LTZ w/ a 3.9 or a 5.3 SS w/ a V8 and 303 hp. I will always be a huge Acura Fan , but the Chevys' Monte Carlo is a much better way to go.

Well, the Monte Carlo will NEVER be anywhere as close to luxurious as the TL. The manual transmission TL is not a slow car. Bone stock I believe car and driver got a time of 5.7s 0-60, or was it 5.8s? I can't quite remember.

So if you wanna go with the Monte Carlo, I think only the 5.3SS will be faster. I don't believe the 3.5 LS can easily keep up with it. But if you only care about speed and not luxury, then get that V8 Monte Carlo.

People say my car is a little to much for me (around 220HP) but I know the limits of me and the car, and know not to come close to either...All you need is self control...

addressing some issues

Okay, 300 horsepower is not too much. I know my limits and the cars limits. Another thing I was in a car doing 115mph. CL Platano said and I quote "Word at 16 you shouldnt be driving 115 mph you are just gonna hurt somebody." What makes you think that its okay for you "adults" to go that fast and not us? If you can hurt someone just as easily as anyone else. And another thing when I was coming home from work tonight my mother told me my grandparents want to help me buy a car, so who knows the TL is still in sight after all.

When I was 16 I did a LOT of stupid things that I look back on and shake my head at, I was lucky that I didn't cause any accidents, well at least not ones that was my fault. And that was with a four-door sedan with only 90HP, if I had a 300HP at 16 I don't think I would be here typing this. Even though I hated my parents for getting me an underpowered boring ass car, I thank them today they didn’t buy or allow me to buy a powerful car and I’ll do the same thing with my kids.

I can see what your saying, but I dont think its to valid of a point... They probably have first hand experience of what can go terribly wrong at that speed. You/We have been driving for more or less a year, we dont have the experince of a bad accident (and hopefully never will)

But whatever you do, do it alone, and dont carry any passengers when you go that fast, having another family sue you because you killed theire son/daughter going that fast is never a good thing (buddy of mine in a 325i did that and he wont see his own paycheck until hes about 23)

Anyone who goes 115 mph in a car in this country on a public street is a fucking moron, regardless of age.

Better yet, get a 4cyl car with small displacement so that you can save $$$ on gas.

If I was buying my kid a car, I think I'd get him or her a 4 cylinder Accord EX-L.

Car and Driver got a 0 to 60 of 5.6 seconds and a quarter mile of 14.3 seconds at 99 MPH with a manual TL A-Spec.

Bad thing about the Monte Carlo is no manual. GM just can't seem to get their head out of their butt and offer what the gearhead public wants.

i don't even know what to say to this....but u better drop this thinking ur invicible if you only have been driving a car for the last 6 months or year and no other experiance period. trust me so many things can go wrong.........until u properly know how to handle and know how to react to a car that is totally out of control can u say u know your limits.

wow! thats actually being pretty nice man. the EX-L 4banger.. i dont mind having one of those right now. definitly good on the gas, plus its got everything my TL's got, and costs thousands less than a TSX.

i would get my kid an ex civic or an lx accord. and i think thats still being nice.

We don't, and your response shows your age. We are giving you good advice, don't be stupid and argue with us. You have ten people all telling you the same thing and you're gonna say we are wrong? That what seperates the kids from the adults. You'd be suprised in the difference between a 16 year old and someone who has been driving a couple years...you learn a lot. Get a beater or something cheaper/less powerful that you won't care about scratching and denting as you learn to drive. Then once you can get used to driving a little after a couple years, get something more in tune to your driving style.

I wasn't going to post in this thread, but since you know everything @ 16, I figured I'd put in my 2 cents...

Statistics. It's all in the numbers.

* Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for people from 15 to 20 years of age.
* In 2001, 14 percent of all drivers involved in fatal crashes were between 15 and 20 years old.
* In 2001, 25 percent of the young drivers between 15 and 20 years of age who were killed in motor vehicle crashes were intoxicated.

Here's some more statistics with some pretty charts.

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/inju...ungDrivers.htm

Have your parents read some of the "Teen Drivers Safety Series" from edmunds (bottom of the page):

http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vdpconta...bsubtypeId=269

If you were my kid, I'd kick you in the ass and tell you you're going to drive what I say you're going to drive and be happy about it until you start paying your own way....

My first car was a 76 Pinto station wagon, that ran on only 3 cly. when I brought it home. And I was grateful that I had it. One of my favorite cars I've owned.

I got my brothers old car... I didnt complain, I loved the car from the start, and am very happy with it 2 years later... I would have been happy driving around a Yugo for all I care... But GreenMonster is right, until you start making payments, take waht your given and be happy about it...

you need to start working on your grammar skills, and start sounding more like an "adult" and less like a retard.

As for the OP and the car - from my experience, I think its all about attitude and maturity. When i went to HS, there were guys that drove relatively powerful cars in a sane manner, and others who had civics like idiots. Me, I alternated between the accord and the TL. However, I always, and still do, have a certain measure of respect for the TL and its limits, and tried not to pull anything stupid on crowded public roads. With the accord, I would probe the limits when cornering on wide (3-4lane) public streets when there was no traffic. That, and the fact that I put 30k miles on both cars alone doing tons of hwy driving in my first year, gained me some experience pretty quick.

I think the most important thing is that even at the time, I had a decent understanding about cars, and was already an enthusiast. The guy on here asking for advice hasn't the foggiest idea about automobiles, if he's comparing a TL to a Monte Carlo. My advice, get your Monte Carlo, and learn more about automobiles and driving. If your primary concern about a vehicle is that "vehicleA" won't accelerate as hard as "vehicleB" at 115mph, then I'd have to agree with the others and say that A. drive more and get more experience or B. your parents need to kick the shit outta you.

Yeah, even on a recent trip for SB a couple weeks back, I was following someone cruising at 100-105mph for a while. My concern wasn't how hard the car pulled then, but how well it handled then, how stable it felt, and how well it braked at those speeds. Not to mention that I left plenty of space between me and the guy in front.

ok

I was never arguing. I would never go that fast with someone in the car, nor on a street were people are roming around. i would only do that on a highway which is still stupid, but WE do it. Now another thing I am sick of people saying people that are younger can't handle a 300 horsepower car , thats balongy. Another subject that was brought up was how young people drive. See some of you in the 20's and 30's drive like crap compared to people in their teens.

Okay. listen here. For the people that said be happy w/ what you got to drive until you pay your own way, well I am going to be paying my own way . And how you think I am going to drive like a maniac is ridiculous. I am and WILL NOT put anybody or I in any kind of danger. And for the people that still think that I said I was doing 115mph .... lets clear this up, I was not driving ... I was just in the car. For a lil' update to I decided not to buy the SS , becuase it is too much for now. One last thing for tonight unless I see some moron typing nonsense , happy b-day to me on tuesday.

Seriously, I don't see why people are making such a big deal about things. It all depends on the person, I know plenty of people who had high HP cars at 16, none of them got in accidents for doing stupid shit, I know more then a few people in "slow" cars that did stupid shit and did get in accidents.

It all comes down to respecting what you drive.

the wisest decision you made in this thread was not to get a monte carlo

my gf has one, it sucks.

how is that for a review crazy sellout

also, just for reference purposes, this is how long a thread about the monte carlo lasted in the 3RD Gen. forum.

Why dont you listen

I said I wasn't going to get an SS Monte. I am thinking about getting a monte still. And for your information the Monte doesn't suck. The monte may not be as luxurious as the acura, but it does have raw power. Before you say anything the only car that the acura has that has really impressive power is the TL and NSX, but I would easily pick a Monte over the TL as for power, speed, and acceleration regardless of what the experts say... it all comes down to the drivers skill and timing. I would also say the NSX is faster than the Monte. Like I said before the 96' monte is very very quick. So I pick the monte over the TL in acceleration, power. As for the the Monte against the tsx... well the tsx in my eyes is a joke.... sorry. I like Acura alot ! believe me I do I am just stating my opinion. Go up against a 06' Monte SS and see how big you are, and I am talking about bone stock. As for the last reason why I the Chevy is better than the Acura is because honda is the same as acura, and hondas suck. Hope not to offend anyone it is just opinions and I will always be a Acura TL/RL/CL/TSX fan and Chevy Monte Carlo SS/Impala SS fan forever.

Hope not to offend anyone it is just opinions and I will always be a Acura TL/RL/CL/TSX fan and Chevy Monte Carlo SS/Impala SS fan forever.

i made all the way to the part where you compared the monte carlo to the nsx.

it still sucks, go to a chevy forum.

Favio shut up

The only reason I am here is because I like the TL , but I also wrote that I am thinking about getting an 2006 Monte Carlo in the car talk section. If you want to bad mouth the Chevrolet Monte Carlo then why don't we race when I get my car. I live in Fl you live in IL why dont we find somewhere in between race sometime.
