carpooling
I ride into DC with three other people. Works out to be about 100 bucks a month. If I rode metro it would be 280. If I drove every day myself, it would be close to 500.
This includes gas, parking, etc.

I live/work in an area too rural to carpool, but I do ride my motorcycle everyday that its not raining. If I drove my CL for 5 days to work it could cost me about $30, but with the bike its about $15.
There are some people in my building doing it, and it works for them (so far). But the relying on others/having set come and go times wouldn't work for me. Besides, I live 6.5 miles from the office...I have no need to carpool.

:ghey:
Never considered carpooling and never would. It would handcuff my scheduling (i.e.: frequent sporadic late nights/early mornings) too much.
Mass transit in the NYC area works just fine in my case, so I will continue riding NJ Transit commuter rail so long as I have my current commute.

so you work 4 days a month?
It works out for me since all three of us lives a couple miles apart and also have the same work schedule. We meet up in an area that is good for all of us and we park our cars and we rotate who drives which day. I can understand everyone's opinions, I too like the privacy of driving to work, but the price of gas is just ridiculous and it is still going up. So by chipping in everyone can get a break. Also, one of the main perks is that we can take the HOV lane.
I don't think you can go wrong carpooling, you save $$, gas, miles and yes good for the environment.

MODERATOR'S NOTE: Though the cause(s) and existence of global warming is debatable, I do not want to reduce this thread to a debate on a VERY political topic. Tread lightly on the subject here.
As it stands now, carpooling has more to do with the ever increasing price of gasoline than any other factor.
