Car Talk Members: What are you driving in 2011?
My step-dad had a '84 533i that he brought over from England (was grey-market from Germany). Maroon and beige ... I loved that car. It was so much fun to drive and nicer than anything else I had been in at the time.
He sold it with about 250k miles on it about 15 years ago so he drove the hell out of it ... The only thing I really recall ever going wrong was the electrics ... When you put on the turn signal all the gauges (including the speedo) would swing back and forth based on the timing of the blinker ...
It's why I'm considering getting one even though I'm an Audi whore.

The M30 engines are fairly robust with a few small problem areas that are pretty easily fixed.
My brother's had 160K miles when unfortunately a hose clamp broke while his G/F was driving it and the voltage regulator for the gauges was bad so she couldn't tell the engine was overheating until it started knocking. The block/head were toast and he sold it to his mechanic in NJ.
He found a nice condition 1988 M6, the M6 had more luxury but the 533 was more fun to drive. I'm guessing there are still plenty of nice E28 533 and 535's around the Baltimore/DC area.

Here's a current pic of my daily in my backyard. My friend Robert took this pic when I was parking:

I would have posted a second pic but I tripped over a stack of hundred dollar bills in my yard and destroyed my own camera by mistake.

Sorry..sorry...I couldn't resist the temptation. Mods can delete this post if you want.

Thanks for the kind words. It's a '98 328i actually. I just got it in April. 129k miles and all things considered it's in really good shape. I think the M3 LTWs were 1995 only. I'm still debating that flag the previous owner put on it
I wanted to get a M3 front but I wouldn't be able to get up my driveway. I scrape like a MFer right now as it is ... The wheels are cheap knockoffs and the finish is already trashed. I'm looking for some real LTWs to replace them with ...
I plan to drive this for a few years and then
around for something else once my Jetta is paid off.

I don't really take pics of my cars anymore. My RSX-S was the last car to have a proper shoot. This is my G37S the day I picked it up almost a year ago (You can see my WDP TL in the background, VERY good car). No pics of my Fit which I've had almost two years now.

Nice job with it!

Where is the car going? I remember you put a lot of work into that car.

How's the baby?
