Arrow Car with a Solid State Drive

I am a computer engineer which is not very related with automobile field.
However, one thing I got interested was the using HDD for music and GPS (long time).
I was wonder if there is any option to switch to SSD instead of HDD.

BECAUSE:
1) common HDD are spinning all the time, it is not safe to carry them in car

For example, when we drive through a big dip, a the reader on a HDD or a CD with hurt the disk itself. That is why i always use the clone of my CD in my car.

2) SSD boost much faster either good for music and GPS system loading. People will love to buy the car with fast processing speed.

3) compare to the price of car SSD is <1% more expensive than a HDD

4) Although many SSD are not completely reliable, intel 500 serie SSD is good enough to have a lower failure rate than some of the HDD.

Just my personal idea~

My G35x navi/music box uses a conventional hard drive but it is a Seagate Heavy Duty/Tough duty (Something similar) Hard Drive which supposedly has a much longer life and takes shocks alot better than a conventional Hard Drive.

So far no issues, but I purchased an extended warranty which covers my whole car until 2015 so i'm not too worried if it goes out at the moment, although the hard drive and all the electronics was the main motivation to get the extended warranty.

Even if there were, SSDs fail pretty spectacularly -- you'd need to keep a backup of the drive somewhere and have an easy way of replacing it.

If it can handle the extremes of heat and cold and uses the same interface, I don't see it being a problem.

Seems highly unneccesary, I think the whole "damage from bumps" is overrated for dvd and hdd based systems. BUT, projects are always cool, so have at it.

I wish they would just skip ahead and use a google maps based nav system, that will use your phones data or equip the car with its own cell transceiver to always be up to date. Of course I am not up on the latest stuff, I still get by with my dvd based nav.
