I think Honda transmissions are/were built both in Ohio and in Japan. I would also guess the CL would probably used Japan gearboxes since that's where final assembly was. The TL I'm don't know. I thought all the Odyssey/Pilot/Accord gearboxes were built in the states. Without a doubt the worst quality fiasco Honda's ever dealt with.

So yes, HoA should share a small part of the blame for not properly inspecting and testing the tranny but that should have been done in Japan before the tranny was built and shipped. Plus, this just only proves my point further. If it was assembled somewhere else like Mexico or Canada and they followed the same procedures, then they would have been at fault and the issue would have still been present.

Now, if I am mistaken and full assembly was in the US, then yes, both Honda and HoA share some blame... but for some reason I recall the decals on my car (2002 TL-S) indicating the tranny and engine were from Japan.

I loved my TL-S. Had I not had to worry about tranny issues after 100k miles I would probably still have it. But, I sold it with about 75k miles b/c I did not want to deal with it. And I was one of the lucky ones... I only had one tranny replacement.

The only problem I have from time to time is my navigation and my memory seat. I will get reading error on the navi but as long as i restart the car it will work again. Everything is still original, engine, tranny, and surprisingly the clutch too. I did the timing belt @ 130K. and change my oil every 5000 miles. that's it

Can we just blame Water-S for the Honda tranny failures?

Dunno. My guess he's either busy fighting fires or leading an arson investigation. Then again, he could be out running one of his many liners hauling product around America. But then again, being the time of year, it's entirely plausible he's planting crops. I suppose he could be attending to those who require EMT assistance, or perhaps honing his skills as a factory trained Honda technician or custom aluminum fabricator. Maybe he's been promoted to a management position at the Ohio Honda facility.

The possibilities are endless.

so far i've put 128,000 miles (and counting) on my 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR. still race it every chance i get. it's seen plenty of autocrossing, road racing, launching, and general everyday "drive it like you stole it" behavior, and i've never had any issues with it other than a couple dash bulbs burning out. i love my car.

With the amount of driving I do it would take me about 100 years to reach 1 million.

I've got a 97 CL 2.2 that just turned 224,000 miles. Bought it for my son with 165k he drove it until 213k, (over about a year and a half)then it sustained front end damage. Sat around for about a year. When gas hit 4.50 gallon I fixed it up to get the 30+ mpg. Still runs like a champ, passes smog easily. Changed axles, tranny clutch, starter etc. Any car will last if you make the commitment. Just hard to maintain interest.

1 million miles is definitely possible with today's cars, as long as proper maintenance is followed.

Until my Audi I hadn't owned a car I would even want to own that long.

But the improvement that I'm seeing in cars these days makes me think that yeah, I could eventually get a really good car and drive it for quite a while.

There are guys with 200k mile FX35s with no issues.

I think the key to getting 200k+ miles out of a car is to get something you absolutely love from the day you buy it and then take great care of it. At some point we're going to be stuck with BS hybrids and EVs in much greater numbers. I think we'll start seeing more people with high mileage cars on here because they don't want to give them up for some stupid plug-in.

There are a number of 911-based Porsches from the late 60's thru the early 80's that have gone past 400,000, with one at @ 800,000 I believe.

LOL at this. They'd probably make them the president of Honda NA if their 2G TL made it to 1 million on the original tranny. In other words.... not happening

As long as you take care of it and are willing to keep replacing stuff and don't get bored any car can go that far. The older the car the easier it'll be because of less electronic stuff.

another thing to be noted in this thread is how many people today believe cars are simply trash when they hit 100,000+ miles and few want to buy them. If the owner was serious about the car and did ALL of the maintenance with no expense spared, I'd save some money and buy the car in a heartbeat...but finding someone who would care for their car like that and then just sell it is few and far between.
Exactly....

I have a 96 2.5 TL with 248K miles on it and just found a 02 RL with exceptional service records with 128K on it and bought it in a heartbeat.

I'd rather buy over 100K when all service is done cheaper than purchase a car with 80K that will need $1-2K in service coming up within the next 25K miles on it...and you'll pay more for the lower miles.
