Can I Fix this Paint Failure Spot?

Before anyone asks me "WTF! How'd you let this happen???", this is my wife's Camry, not MY TL. It was purchased new in 2000 and spent 8 years in Florida sun with minimal care (hey - she's responsible for her car, I'm responsible for mine). No basements in Florida (rare) so all your junk goes in the garage - or the attic if it can withstand 160 degree temperatures - so the Camry was not garaged.

Anyway, the failure is down to the primer, or possibly thru at one small spot. Is it feasible for me to repair this to an "OK" condition using something like Duplicolor spray paint? I airbrush some, so I'm not totally inept spraying paint.

The blem is on the roof of the car and I'm not looking for an undetectable fix. The car is abused more than loved, so I'm just looking for it to hold together long enough for me to get re-employed and her into an MDX or RDX (which WILL be taken care of).

Proposed steps:

1) Sand out some/feather edges. Probably wet sand with 600grit?
2) Degrease area w/lacquer thinner.
3) Mask
4) Prime with sandable primer
5) Wet sand maybe 1000grit
6) Degrease
7) Spray color
8) Wet sand if needed
9) Repeat 7/8 if needed
10) Clear coat??? Do they sell a clear coat in spay can?

Thoughts, suggestions, accusations of insanity? Input welcome.

Thanks!

Steve

i think your steps are spot on (no pun intended).

Just don't spay the clearcoat can - otherwise you could hurt the clear coat can population

your best bet to fix it would be to take off any loose surrounding paint first so you know that the paint isn't bonding to flaking paint when you feather it in. Use prepsol when preping, that will make it very good for painting.

then:
3) Mask
4) Prime with sandable primer
5) Wet sand maybe 1000grit
6) Degrease
7) Spray color
8) Wet sand if needed
9) Repeat 7/8 if needed
10) Clear coat
