I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of AMG cars...mainly b/c they lack a manual trans and don't tend to handle as well as other cars in that category. However, the new Motortrend article on the C63 makes the car seem pretty promising and likely to give the new M3 a very good run for the money. In a straight line, it'll probably flat out kill the new M3 due to it's HUGE torque advantage.

Anyone that is a "driver" like myself will agree. Nobody wants an automatic while tracking there car at watkins glen, limerock, vir, etc. etc.
I must say I am less than impressed with the new m3. It is similar weight to my old gto and less horse power which owned the advanced instructor group being 3800lbs so I must say that 8500 rpms it wont stand a chance on a road course.

I'm actually also interested in the IS-F.
As a DD, I don't rule out automatic's anymore. If I like the car, I'll consider it.

Doesn't handle as well? For the $ saved, do a suspension.
Neither is gorgeous imo, so that point is subjective and moot.

is it deliberate that car and driver put that "436 hp Corvette" headline on top of the new M3? That would be very tough to decide, this new 414hp M3 or the 436hp Corvette. if they were the same price, what would you pick??
But, M3, is hot!! now, someone please loan me $60,000.

A side from the colors I think they look the same. Sorry for the double post but it wont let me indent to the next line for some reason.

I agree there is a certain similarity between the two. While I like the BMW interior, I prefer Audi interiors better

Ultimately I'd choose the ///M but it would be for my own highly subjective reasons. Objectively, the Chevy is a much better deal and supposedly the 2008 model has some major refinements on the way.

I personally think the M3 is sloppy looking, standard 335 looks much better.

K-Fed's Stunt Double
Forget the M3. I've wanted one forever and I've been waiting a year. No DCT? WTF?!
S5 or C63 AMG for me unless the DCT Comes by launch. Rumors have been that BMW is pushing hard for DSG to come by launch since they understand it's importance.
While you claim to be "drivers", I'll still beat you going schumacher on you with an f1-paddle-shifting torque converterless transmission.
I'm ready to pay to play. I can't wait till I get either of the 3. PSYCHED.

First you guys say "oh well who cares about a manual, you only use it's maximum potential 0.01% of the time anyway, pretty much only on the track"
Then you say "anyway the DCT is much faster than a manual so I'll beat you on the track"
All I know is that the transmission that will win me over is the type that involves actuating a clutch pedal with my left foot. The endless day-to-day enjoyment of using the clutch pedal tops any sort of advantage granted by using a DSG. I don't care if your shift times are 0.05 milliseconds or they don't even exist at all, a la CVT. My statement holds firm unless the car has a garbage clutch/gearbox, at which point shifting is just a chore.
And as for the advantage of having an automatic while driving in heavy traffic, why did you buy a C63 so that you could drive it during rush hour? Take the Honda Fit to the track and the M5 to work, eh?
