I don't remember what my sister got for her ES350 but it is a great luxury car. Very cushy ride and quiet.

When the new body style ES came out my mom wanted one. Negotiated a decent deal for her roughly about 4k off of MSRP. It has the "premium plus" package- no navi w/ chrome wheels. It's a pretty solid ride and she loves it alot more than her former MB E320.

jsong83 isn't the IS250/350 more appropriate for your age group? the es350 is kind of like an old man/woman's car.

Not kind of, it IS an old person's car.

I've driven my neighbor's ES350, and I hated it. You literally feel like you're floating on a cloud.

I'm assuming you're a car enthusiast since you came to this forum, which makes me think you like to drive. If so, why do you want one of the most boring cars ever made...especially at your age?

Bolded text hit the nail on the head. So true.... if you do like an ultra-quiet numb experience, its perfect. The steering is so light, they should call it full-electric control instead of power assist. Its like playing a video game simulator minus the fun. There is absolutely ZERO steering feedback and you don't feel any road irregularities. Some people love it though, I guess. There's a crowd for everything....

My sister is far from a driving enthusiast. She and my mom bought the car without even test driving it. They had me test drive it and tell them what I thought of it. Sis really likes it though, she's 33, not really an old person. I personally think its one of the best looking sedans out there right now, and overall its a great car, it is marketed towards a certain demographic though.

There are people out there who would think an Exige is the baddest thing out there, and there are other who will think its complete garbage. Same with the ES350.

i will check out www.clublexus.com...thanks

ggesq...what area of the country do you live in? i know certain areas of the country are cheaper than others so im just trying to gauge properly of what my sister should expect to pay.

well it doesnt matter if it has a cushy ride.. the guy wants more of a luxury feel... he obviously feels that the lexus es is in his interest, so hes asking us about prices.. not about what you think of it...

My wife is looking at this car, but I'm trying to push her towards a GS instead. I know she won't like the floaty ride of the ES, but she'll figure that out when she test drives one

BTW, why not buy a pre-owned? These things are a dime a dozen. A quick view of eBay shows many great deals available. Why not let some other sucker take the huge depreciation hit you normally see in the first 12-18 months of a vehicle's life?

BTW, great reply Soccer_playa

the car's for his sister, who's 30. if she doesn't mind the ride, i think it's a great car to buy. you know what to expect from the interior and quality, and it's the best looking ES to date.

for me.

I quite like the look of the new ES.

However, if you're inclined, you could also consider the Infiniti M and the Acura RL.

Just be warned that the redesigned '07s had a lot of transmission flare issues, same as the V6 Camrys. I was thinking of moving to an ES or loaded Camry from my 04 TL, but I'm pretty much off of that now because of all the tranny problems. Supposedly they fixed it programatically, but at least with the Camry, there have been reports of it still in the '08s. Apparently there have been a lot of lemon-law buy-backs, with both the 07 Camry and ES. This MAY have been completely fixed by now, but make sure you do your homework. It's definitely made me drop those cars to the bottom of my list, and it's added more evidence to support a friend's theory that FWD cars with > 240 HP are inherently susceptible to transmission problems. Because of this, I second Audi-boy's recommendation of a certified pre-owned RL with SH-AWD. That's how I'm currently leaning, anyway.

I like the ES for what it is, it is not an enthusiasts car, and it never claimed to be. Its a luxury car with quiet ride and passengers comfort as its primary focus, its not slow, but I certainly wouldn't call it fast and feel its almost in a market all its own. If I were in the market for a second car, a daily driver, this is the exact vehicle I would look at, it is the exact opposite of the Lotus.

I agree JB ... I won't say never but I don't see myself ever buying a new car again unless I win the lottery or something.

Just doesn't make sense ... The depreciation is just a bad financial decision.

There was a time in my life I would disagree, now I see the light and agree. As I grow older I more fully appreciate the value of money and am patient to find the right deal.

Usually 1k below listed invoice is what you should be paying if you live in a competitive market. You should not have to pay more than invoice for this car.

I was helping someone with purchasing an ES350 (decided to go with GS instead) and I was able to get invoice on a 08 several months ago.

I live in Florida. Parents live in S. Florida. We got the car from Countyline Lexus.

It was a late 07 build i.e. after April so there are no tranny issues w/ my mom's ES

i told her that i think she should buy a pre owned. even if its a couple months old just so she doesnt pay the depreciation but she said the car feels "dirty" (in her words) if its not new and i guess i understand in a way.

My best friend's Dad just bought one. It's nice but the interior doesn't really do it for me and it was just kind of boring but if that's your thing, go for it. He had a G35, hated it and got the ES with the premium package and couldn't be happier. It's all what you like but I guess it's a nice car...
