Is buying carfax unlimited worth it?
as you guys may know, I have been looking for a Acura TL Type S for the last 2 months and I finally found one from a private party. I want to carfax it before I buy it but the prices are crazy. 20 for 1, 30 for 10, or 40 for unlimited. It would seem like the 40 is the best deal. Does anyone have it and was it worth it?

There are instances where some info slips through the cracks, like damage that was repaired and not reported.
Overall, it doesn't make sense to pinch pennies on this 40 bucks. Do it.
Never heard of the autocheck company suggested by the previous poster.

Like you said, don't pinch pennies. Maybe get both and compare.

You can get discounted Carfax if you are member with any of the affiliated group. In past I have got unlimited carfax for $27 (including tax) through AAA. I also think some of the chain stores (Costco/Sam's) have some sort of deal/discount.
& Oh yes do get the unlimited Carfax, but use Carfax report as more of an elimination process than a selection process. Seal a deal only after through in person inspection of the vehicle.

^ what he said. I wouldn't sweat the 40 bucks when you're making a $25k+ investment. Plus with the unlimited, if this deal falls through you can still use it to run other VINs. <!-- / message --><!-- edit note -->

I've always done it and its always been worth it. You can find out where a car was originally titled, where it came from, if it has had a salvage title, usually where its been, and if it has had reported damage.

In regards to knowing whether a title is clean or not, just look at it. If it has a salvage title or true mileage unknown it will be labeled on the title itself.
