Busted the hell out of a NSX...

Friday at the track, I roll up on one after a pass, and it is SLAMMED lookin bad ass. I ask him what he got done and they said a few things (I find out later its got a hell of a lot of work done), and he asks me if I want some, so I said sure lets run em. First pass I redlighted trying to stall it up on the brakes and pushed through the lights, I wait for him to take the jump even though I redlighted, and then I hit and still beat him by about a car and half. The tower messed up the lights so we go again. This time I stall the same with my left foot on the floor to not break the lights, and I leave his ass. It was at least 4-5 car lengths, and I pulled him all the way down track. It was funny cause my g/f said a bunch of his friends were talking shit about how he was going to bust me up, and then I put it in him, and my g/f made fun of em at the starting line and walked off... hahaha.

The race was in a 100% stock this:

12.5 @ 111.5. The damn stock converter won't let me stall it high enough. My good friend told me AFTER I got home to floor it off a stop instead of stalling it, and it would have flashed the converter. If I had done that he thinks I coulda gone 12.3s easily... oh well next time I guess...

NSX's aren't "fast" cars in a straight line by today's standards.

I think it was pretty fast, he had a tone of work done to it too, so its not like it was a stock one, which woulda been ugly for him.

True dat, but its not like I was in my Mustang, the Vette pulls close to a g in the skid, Ithink it would keep up on a road track...

phile, no that is about half a mile from my house, just saw it driving down the street and pulled over to take a few pics...

darrinb, yes its an auto, still stock converter... I have been told .5-.8 drop with a 3200 so that is what is going in it... hope to go high 11s with just the 'verter

C6 is the generation of the Vette, and the Z06 is to the Corvette what the "Type S" is to our Acuras, x10.

Why do people with big V8's get excited about beating a 6 cylinder? And when the design of said 6 cylinder car is for a road course and not a STRAIGHT LINE????

On the vette forums guys are running high 11's with just a verter on stock tires. With tires, you will dig deeper into 11's.

I see two sides to this. One side is that I hate the fanboys who say stuff like "NSX is faster than you in a curve." That's like saying "The NSX can stop faster'n you." It's

On the other side, the V6 NSX is still a rare, exotic sports car that exemplifies Honda's ingenuity. And the Corvette, fast and handsome as it is, is still only a Chevrolet.

The NSX is still only a Honda

They are both great cars and do almost everything exceptionally well. I agree with you on the "fanboy" assessment. Some people just cannot accept another good car because of their loyalty to one brand.

There was a thread a couple months ago where someone said they would take an NSX over a 360 modena because it was more reliable.

Edmunds did a comparison of the three quintessential American sports cars a few years ago (Corvette vs Mustang vs Viper) and they threw in the NSX just for kicks. If I remember correctly, it was actually pointed out that despite the aluminum construction and V6 engine, the NSX outweighed the V8 steel construction Corvette by a few pounds. And it didn't handle a whole lot better than the Corvette (I think the Corvette had better numbers, in fact).

I think a stock C6 would work a NSX on most tracks

don't get me wrong, the NSX is still a bad machine and was the pinnacle in the mid 90's, but we are in the mid 00's now

That would be bad ass, but I am not that optimistic... What size converter did they have do you remember? I already decided on a 3200, I do not want anything larger than that as it still will be driven hard around curves too, and too much converter = too much sideways action... lol

A v6 that costs almost 2x the price of the C6 and actually would probably get beaten by a C6 on a road course as well. It's now the C6 owners fault that the NSX only offers a V6. Run what you brung. The NSX guy came to the drag strip, so it was fair game.

The NSX is a beautiful car but its time has come. It's a relic now and not extremely competitive with the latest sports cars. Just wait until the C6 Z06 comes out, which still costs less than a NSX and will rape it in every way imaginable.

For a stock vs. stock comparison I would say (for drag-strip or track)...

350Z < 3.0-liter NSX
3.0-liter NSX < 3.2-liter NSX
3.2-liter NSX < C5 Z06 (NSX:advantage in the corners, C5:advantage in acceleration)
C5 Z06 < C6 Z06

with each step representing a significant improvement in acceleration. (I'm making an assumption with the C6 Z06, since it won't be out till fall.)

Now if a 3.2-liter NSX has the following mods; CT i/sc/h/e installed w/370 WHP, then the comparison would be something like this...

stock C5 Z06 < 3.2-liter modded NSX (NSX:advantage in the corners & acceleration)

3.2-liter modded NSX < stock C6 Z06 (NSX:advantage in the corners??? maybe, C6:advantage in acceleration)

A C6 will outperform an NSX in most every category, but they are still two totally different types of cars. Just like a friend of mine has a 95 LT1 Vette that runs 9's and will go 200+ mph, but it's no Murcielago.

Vette $43,000
NSX $90,000

0-60
Vette 4.3
NSX 4.7

Quarter Mile
Vette 12.7
NSX 13.2

Gas Mileage
Vette 19/28
NSX 17/24

...etc.

Sorry, that made me laugh for a bit... ok no seriously it made me laugh a hell of a lot...

The one I raced was a 97, dunno but I thought that was the newer motor year...

The reason it was funny is all his friend's were talking shit at the line about how I was going to get "destroyed" is the word my girlfriend mentioned... Then when I beat his ass like a red headed step child, she made a smart ass comment back and walked off, and she said they looked like she kicked them in the nuts.

I would, but I don't have money for road tires, and am not going to take the car to a road track on my $9000 wheels and tires and burn them up in a few minutes...

From what I can tell is that they are pretty even on a big track, the NSX would probably get it on the autocross short tracks...

I know the Z51 C6 which is what I got, is rated .98 on the skidpad, it handles pretty damn good.

the C6 is a world class handler, you can believe that. chevy spent alot of time w/ R&D and tesing on the Nurburgring.

yep, esp. since they cut some length out of the thing. Gurantee that thing would beat a NSX at most of the tracks in this country w/ the same driver.

First off, I'm biased toward the NSX - ...............

Say what you want about the C5, C6 or whatever type of vette. For me, none of them even come close to the quality, finish, refinement, balance or overall driving enjoyment that an NSX delivers. Oh did I forget to mention reliability. You see vettes everywhere and every day which are so common place. But how often do you see an NSX? The NSX will inspire you in many ways, while a vette will just impress you with it's power and good handling. Sure, some types of vettes are faster in some ways, but I'll take an NSX over a vette any day --- oh, I forgot, I already did...

If all you're into is power, then you probably favor a vette over an NSX. On the other hand, there's the NSX... superior in many ways... except maybe price/performance.

As far as the NSXer who was displaying some arrogance before the race-off, he deserved the result. But this makes me wonder if there was a different driver in the NSX, would the result have been a lot closer?

Here are some NSX inspiration videos...

NSX part 2 (27 MB)

Top Gun NSX (22 MB)

have you driven a C6, Gary?

i would take a C6 Z06 over 99.9% of NSX's. as it would mop the floor w/ 99.9% of NSX's. no matter what the playing field was.

i still can't wait to see your NSX though.
