do you think they would cheat and take it out to a garage and either swap it with a mint condition plymouth belvedere or unveil it themselves first and see if they could try to wash and wax it before showing it to the public.

they had every intention of keeping moisture out.

why's that so bad?

it's a nice warm town with good folks. they deserve the tourism after all it did take them 50 years to get it.

automotive history is heavily intwined with american history hence why this is such a big event. it may be inthe article that OP posted but at the time tulsa had the 2nd most cars in the country!

I think it's actually pretty damn cool.

do you think if they put it in one of those huge railroad transport boxes, you know the ones you see on freight trains, it could've preserved the car longer?

I never said it wasn't cool guy, perhaps you read into my statement a bit. It's just annoying they are waiting until 6PM CST to open what's left of the plastic... They took the car out at noon... You can already see it looks like a rust bucket and a huge screw up on the guys who put it in it's vault. There are cars that are older that haven't been encased in a cement vault that are in better shape. The car should have been pristine since it was supposed to be preserved... Hopefully it cleans up OK

And now that I'm done playing Monday morning quarter back

Looks kinda rusty to me, but some of that might be from the jelly they put on it to help preserve it.

And I want to know now damb it!

Damn if they left it in a barn with a couple of cats to keep the mice away it would have been in better shape...

ya, that pic is a bit misleading since it still has the plastic covers on it. But the car did sit in over 6' of water at one point. So you can assume the worst.

Wait until some pics of the car come in with the cover removed and the jelly cleaned off. I'm guessing it's going to be a pile of rust for the most part....

Kinda makes you wonder how bad it really is once all the grime is removed. The metal might not be all that bad. What I really wonder about is that you can see the battery still hooked up by it's cables on the right side of the engine bay. You would think that if they went through the trouble they supposedly did to preserve the car, they would have at least removed the battery.

Whoever gets it, and if it can possibly be restored, I hope they choose not to. It's much more interesting and historic in the condition it's in. I would rather see it cleaned as best they can and try to preserve whats left.

Terry

you've never seen the movie christine? it's a well known fact that this car will restore itself in a while and possibly kill the people that burried it. if any are still alive.

Exactly, I'm sure there is substantial rust, but could it not just be surface rust, essentially?

Christine was a Plymouth Fury
