Boyd Coddington Passed Away
Got a phone call from a friend this morning confirming a rumor that Boyd Coddington passed away today.
Despite my personal gripe w/ the fella, he was a great pioneer in the industry and brought a lot of exposure to it.
RIP Boyd.

If you had dealt with him in the last 5 years or so you'd know the show depiction wasn't that bad, and a little understated. Boyd was a good guy 15 years ago. Would sit and talk with you, chat about cars, etc. He use to show up to a weekly breakfast that my dad use to take me too. Over the last 5-10 years it completely changed, he was too good for everyone....even some of his old friends that made him what he had become.
The shit he pulled on Chip was the start of Boyds downfall IMO........
What is weird though, I just saw and talked to Boyd back in December at PRI out in Orlando, he didn't seem in horrible health.

World-renowned tuner and hot rod king Boyd Coddington died at 6:20 am this morning. The cause of death is still unknown. Coddington, founder of Boyds Wheels and designer of prize-winning custom cars, had recently been hospitalized twice for an undisclosed medical condition. Although he was though to be in recovery, rumors of his untimely death began circulating today throughout the forums. A spokesperson for Boyd Coddington's corporation has confirmed to Jalopnik that those rumors are true. The company will be releasing a statement later today.
*Edit didn't see CLpowers post #6*
Boyd.I thought a lot of his cars were really clean and smooth, which I like. Definitely a pioneer. I remember reading about him when I first started picking up my Dad's Hot Rod magazines when I was in elementary school.

Chip was Boyds main guy.......chip did all the designs and actual work on the cars that made Boyd famous. He never gave chip the recognition......eventually made chip a partner (President) only to reveal he was bankrupt sending Chip out on his ass. Reality is...it was the best thing that ever happened to Chip. Once Chip left Coddington basically acted like Chip never existed, never gave him any credit for turning Coddington into the "image" it became. Would bad mouth Chip any chance he got.

Boyd thinks Chip cheated him by leaving his bankrupted company to go start his own thing
Oh, Chip was nice enough to leave Boyd with all the designs he had done that made Boyd famous
Charlie left Boyd to go finish the Riddler car Chip built....after that he subleased a spot in Chips shop to do his own work.

That is a great example of their work
I loved how people called them good bike builders when the first 3 seasons they never BUILT a complete bike, they'd take a tank off the shelf, throw it on a frame someone else made......have another guy supply the wheels.....etc Atleast now they are actually BUILDING.......but when was the last time you saw a book come out.
Thats unfortunate. Like him or not, he was a talented individual. There definitely seemed to be some animosity between him and Foose, but it appeared to me that Foose always took the high road and never made any derogatory comments towards Coddington. Not knowing him except through his television program, I can't comment on the type of person he was, but he certainly seemed to belittle some of his people at times.
Nonetheless, he added much to the automotive industry and will be missed. I wonder how his passing will effect the value of his creations?
