BMW's Z3 close to production now

First let me say that this car will probably be names the Z5 or some other name other than the Z3.

The car will be introduced in the Paris auto show in September of this year.

Engines will start with a 2 liter 143 HP, 2.5 liter 190 HP and the 3.0 liter which will be making at least 235HP (10 HP bump over the current engine). A year later the will put the M3's engine in the car making 333HP.

That's actually better-looking than I had expected. No parking lights over the headlights, trunk looks OK, "flame-surfacing" kept to a minimum.

I'd still take an S2000 over a Z3 in a heartbeat.

I like it, but the base engine needs more than 143hp...typical BMW.

I would imagine that 143 hp engine would not come to the U.S. since the current european model has a small 4

I don't know if I am alone here, but I think BMW is going the wrong way fast with their styling.

Yes the new 7 is somewhat ugly, but this Z3 is not... it actually reminds me of my friends beautiful Z8.

From the BMW boards that I now frequent, that is a copmuter enhanced photo and not the real thing. There was a spy shot posted there not too long ago and it was by far MUCH uglier. You can only hope that the one before you is the one that will actually make it to production.

BMW needs to come out with an automatic hard top convertible like Mercedes. Imagine an M3 convertable with an automatic hard top. It would be the greatest car ever! Well, under $50,000 anyway.

I feel that way for the 7 and now the 5. But not this roadster car. Looks OK.

Such a car would cost 60K. And it would sell 60 cars total.

According to this month's Car and Driver, the 6 series will be an SL competetor, but it will NOT have a hardtop!

Really? I thought it was going to have a hardtop? Hmm, my source was wrong then. I am really curious to see the M version of the 6 Convert though.
