BMW to start manufacturing in China soon

Beijing, Jan. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Bayerische Motoren Werke AG said it expects to sign a joint venture with Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd. in the first quarter, allowing the world's No. 2 luxury carmaker to start building vehicles in China.

BMW wants to make cars in the world's most populous country to catch up with rivals. The Munich-based company has been waiting more than half a year for the study's results to be cleared. The Chinese government approved the initial project proposal in July.

The German company and China's largest minivan maker plan to manufacture BMW 3- and 5-Series sedans at the local partner's northeastern Shenyang plant. The venture plans to start making cars in the second half of next year and aims to make 30,000 vehicles a year.

(news report in 2005)

this just in, due to BMW's desicion in 2003 to move production of some models to CHINA, build quality has suffered dramatically....

one owner of a 2005 BMW 330i said "this peice of shit rattles almost as much my old 2001 acura CL-S that i got rid of for this!!"

"in other news, Car and Driver magazine still sucks the dicks of all BMW corporate workers and still rates their cars higher than cars more deserving, despite the significant drop in build quality since BMW moved a large portion of its operation to China"

Chinese robots speak mainly mandarin and German robots speak german.

Maybe it's not the robots, but the ppl who set them up and operate them. the poor quality could also stems from the ppl who perform all the QC maybe??

7yrs ago the high end audio company I worked for, shifted all their manufacturing to China. That was the start of losing market share from the poor QC. If you're buying high end stuff, you do not want to see a lable..."Made in China"...

FROM EXPORT-LED TO CONSUMER-DRIVEN. Asian economies once dependent on what they could export are now adding the power of consumer spending by a greatly expanding middle class. by 2005 china middle class larger than US!!!!!
