You basically can get any color BMW offers for an additional charge of $2000. They won't design a custom color for you, just ones they have currently.

Here are a few........

Avus Blue

Techno Violet

This is the list.....a few might be missing.

Avus Blue Metallic
Estoril Blue Metallic
Dakar Yellow
Tourmaline Violet
Silverstone
Steel Blue
Orient Blue
Grey Green
Black Sapphire
Light Yellow Met.
Slate Green
Velvet Blue
Toledo Blue
Chiaretto Red
Sterling Grey
Blue Water
Electric Red
Techno Violet

Please clarify ... some of these colors used to only be available on the E36 M3's (Techno Violet for one, and I believe I've only seen Estoril on the M-series ((M3, M-coupe, Z3))) vehciles. Are you saying that these colors, while not being prominently advertised in the brochures, can be gotten via special order from the factory for the addit $2K? Avus has been around for donkey's years ... didn't really think it was that hard to get as it seemed to be everywhere, just like Boston Green. tks

You are absolutely correct, most of the special order colors have been around for years both in the U.S./and or Europe. The custom colors aren't advertised at all, but you can get them by inquiring with your dealer.

The one color that is not on the list, which I had on my 95 M3 back in the day is Daytona Violet.....that was a cool color.

If I got a new M3, it would either be Avus or Techno Violet.....just kind of sucks you have to pay $2k to get them.

its called BMW Individual. Any dealer can get this ordered for you for 2k of course.

Weird part is that they had the 3-series and m3 on their site last year, but this years theres only 5-series and the 7-series for BMW Individual. But they still do it. http://www.bmw.com/bmwe/pulse/bmwm/index.html

Also..some more pics
http://www.m3supercar.com/e46.html

its pretty cool on how rare you can be

Beltfed that is a FKin nice pic, buuuuuuuut thats not the pic . Is the special BMW pic with the black, chrome, rims. If my memory serves me it was a pic that was posted here sometime ago, and the pic seemed like it was taken from a SRMA convention.

Its more of a black. I checked the colors that BMW offers and none of them are it. If I also remember the rims can only be painted in Germany because the paint that is used on the rims is so toxic that US standards does not allow the paint.

Think u now know what I am talking about.

Actually, Avus looks nothing like LSB.......Avus is probably one of the nicest shades of blue I have seen on a car. You might have meant Topaz blue which was a standard M3 color (but has been replaced by Mystic blue, looks the same but is a bit darker)

This is Laguna Seca blue.....

If you follow the BMW Boards alot of guys are trying to duplicate that Chrome Shadow Color. I believe EPA regulations forbid that color based on the paints used to attain it, or something like that.

U know what Beltfed, the more I look at it the more I think that the Chrome Shadow is the color that I am looking for.

Especially after what eclipse23 said that has got to be the color.

Now doesn't House of Kolor have the closest pain to mimic that BMW Chrome Shadow?

The chrome shadow paint job runs at around $20,000.00 USD. It is not available from BMW Individual program. It's a custom paint. The closest that you can get to that is probably steel grey, which closely resembles this color ... but not as stunning.

Steel Grey:

OT: Try www.bimmerforums.com or www.m3forums.com? You'll get pictures a lot faster that way. Also, here are some gallerys of M3s, you can look for them here.

Good work laying down the correct info, Beltfed. It's nice to come into a thread and see someone posting a lot of truth.

I'm surprised how many different blues are available. I never knew the whole list of colors, but I knew about Avus and Estoril, but most of the other ones are news to me.

my friend ordered an M3 SMG w/ the optional Blue Water color. He waited months and when it finally came the dealer screwed up and it didn't have a navi! He didn't want to wait again so he just got a silver one

First of all: JRock. What the hell is that ? A flying squirrell?

Second, and we probably need a bimmer expert on this, but I thought I read somewhere that BMW will paint your car ANY color you like, but you gotta provide the paint chip sample, specify the gloss, etc. This is probably NOT a good thing to do unless you say "match the color, and make it glossy') gloss paint is harder than flat paint. However, I do not think anyone would want a low gloss car.

I remember this second point really well, because the article said (I think It was Car and Driver) concluded that the car would be shipped with a quart of matching paint in the trunk for the inevitable you know what, and at that time, about 1990, that quart of paint cost you an additional $1,500 ABOVE the cost to do a really one off, seriously custom color.

I just got my wheels powder coated with a black chrome powder coating, I am sure some of you have seen it. I would KILL to have that "black chrome paint on the body of my car. Wow! is it beautiful!
