BMW 850ci
BMW 850ci
OK i need some help guys. I'm having an argument with some friends over wether the no longer in production BMW 850ci ever had 2 inline sixes making up its twelve cylinders instead of the usual V configuration. Was this true in any year they made them?
I'm saying at one time they did come as two inline Sixes together, their saying it was in a V for ALL years made. Who's right?
Any help is appreciated.

When BMW developed the V12 for the 750, it was developed as if 2-6 cylinder engines were mated since either side had the capacity to run w/o the other (like if bank one of 2 failed, car cld still go 100 mph on 6 cyls). I don't believe however, it was actually 2 6's together w/ a common crankshaft.
uncle has an 850csi with M Tech suspension, wheels and interior. It hauls ass and yes it is a V-12. He has owned many a BMW and said that they never made anything bu the V for the * series.
The first V12's from BMW were two sixes joined and ran almost independently. That's why they had so much trouble with them. They had a motor synchro server that used to go out and the car would limp home at 35 MPH. It affected the 750 as well in the beginning.
