This has been talked about alot!

Story goes........ if your girlfriend is quick shifter and she knows how to rev and launch, she will have no problem whipping up on you stock vs stock. Now if you know how to launch your cls using the gate and not SS and she can not drive all that well, you stand a chance. NOW, if I was driving the 330 (my friend owns one) in a stick form, I will whip a cls..... I can drop a clutch/shift too damn fast for an auto in the same range. Now again, if the 330 is an auto, YOU BETTER be able to spank it.

I will choose a cls hands down. But i don't know how this will work with the tires being the same as they are now. We loose traction with an auto, can you imagine dumping the clutch on those tires at mid revs. The 330ci will be gone. I say change the tires to some good stickys and the cls in 6spd will be kicking some serious ass. Heaven help a modded cls with i/h/e/ sticky tires, pulleys, vtec controler, and plugs. I guessing a 5.3 time and maybe 13s for quarter mile.

The CLS will win! The only thing is that a bmw has alot of highend power. Like the Energizer bunny, they keep going and going and going, as where we will die at about 110. Keep the cls in 3rd all the way!

IMO, the BMW have high end power is because of the sweet gear ratio on their tranny...

The BMW does not have a lot of high end power...what they have is a broad powerband and lots of torque...and the only reason they can pull away from a CL is that their 5th gear ratio is 1:1....that's why they also get 19 mpg on the freeway and top out at about 130mph....

The tranny doesnt affect power, unless it is heavy and takes away alot of power to the wheels. What the BMW manual does have, is higher gear ratios for quicker engine revs. The new Acura manual has that and more.

I lost to a 330ci 5MT by about 3/4 of a car length. I got a terrible launch, and he had snow tires.

I wonder how the SMG 330 will do. I'm thinking that's my next car already since I doubt I'll be able afford an SMG II M3. Does anyone know when the next body change for the 3 series is due?
