This one arrived at a local Ford dealer so I went to get a closer look in person. I even sat in it!

It stayed on the showroom floor for less than a week. I was told some guy came in with a 2001 Viper with only 1900 miles and traded-in in addition to a $130,000 check. He only got $36,000 for his Viper, Dodge value is awesome!

Pics are from my camera phone. Still made according to Ford quality standards, the passenger foglight housing had condensation in it and the panel gaps weren't perfect.

That's a sweet car but sad to think ... that a hand-built car doesn't have quite the quality standards some mass-produced Japanese (and Korean!) cars.

Actually, Gen II Vipers hold their value very well.....especially 01's (being that was the first year for ABS brakes).

A 1900 mile perfect 01 Viper ranges from about $52-$54k give or take private sale.

Don't confuse bad resale value with a dealer offering shit $ on trade.

Not sure what 01's go for in Galves, but I would just sell the car to a private party.

don't get me wrong it's the dude's money and he can do what he want with it however as far as "bang for the buck" he would have been better to take the viper to the local Chevy dealer have them order a new Vette Z06 for like 70 grand(even if he paid MSRP) he'd have almost 100 grand left over. plus your within 50 hp of the Ford GT. you slap on a set of headers,exhaust and intake on the Z06 even if you pay the dealership to do it moneywise your still "ahead of the game"

True, but you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Vette these days. You sure don't see many GTs around. I think the Ford is much better looking, more exotic, than any Vette.

Just like parshooter said, if I had the cash, the GT would be a no-brainer. Corvettes are a dime a dozen around my area. I've only ever seen 1 GT. Me and the 10 cars behind him almost wrecked trying to get a closer look.

BTW, I've seen a brand new Enzo with condensation forming in one of the headlights. Exotic cars are not immuned from problems.

I'm not bashing the Z06 by this, but the quality isn't great, I detail 2 regularly, one is literally falling apart, has rattles all over etc.


I don't have much experience w/ the GT, sat in 2, seen a few up real close. Car is pretty solid.

i'm not gonna say the GT isn't a fast or good car. because it is fast and a good car. HOWEVER, Ford overpriced it to beat hell. 150 grand for something that's pretty close to a Z06. no way. when you can pice up 2 Z06s for the price of 1 GT.
Ford was marketing toward a unique crowd. a crowd with a ton of bucks. wanted something "old school" and something that wouldn't blend in to much with the crowd. However you can't price it so high that when comparing to a Z06 it's gotta have something that the Z06 doesn't for the extra money.

another awesome car even though it doesn't have the HP the Z06 or GT has is the Porshe 911 Turbo. 125 grand and 0-60 in 3.7 seconds.

Apparently that guy previously had a 2000 Viper. He brought it in to a Dodge dealer for service, it caught fire under their care, so they gave him that brand new 2001.

I wouldn't classify the Z06 Vette as a supercar. It's got the power, handling, and looks. The only problem is it is mass produced.

My brother-in-law just bought an '02 Viper GTS in red with black racing stripes and it came with exhaust, BBK, intake, and staggered 19'' machined racing wheels. It only had 25k miles on it. He paid $47k on ebay, and it belonged to a Dodge dealer in Kentucky. Those Vipers certainly still have value - that guy just got raped on his trade-in.

By the way, I like the Ford GT but there's no way in hell I'd buy it over a F430 Modena. Hell, I'm pretty sure I'd rather have a Gallardo over that.

I wasn't fond of the GT at first but I have grown to love it.

You can't really compare the GT to the Z06. Is the Vette a "better" value? Yes. However, it is very easy to see the $80,000 difference between the two (to me at least) and realize that, if money is no object, the GT is the better all-around car.

Personally, I would pocket the $15,000 difference and buy myself a 997 911TT.

Water, listen very carefully. People who buy these cars are less concerned with 0-60 times as they are exclusivity. To them the 911 is just another Porsche with a big wing on the back.

The GT looks like no other car and hence it's #1 in their eyes. Same thing can be said for the NSX. It's all about having what the average shlub doesn't. Limited production means a lot.

I checked the values on a '01 Viper on Kelly Blue Book. Don't know which model the guy traded-in, but I plugged in 1900 miles and the local area zip code. All prices are for 'excellent' condition vehicles.

Looks like the Viper ages as expected. I pulled up similar quotes on a 2001 BMW M5 which had a similar 2001 MSRP.

From the trade-in prices I'm seeing, I don't think the dealer screwed him too much. There was no way he was getting over $40 grand for his trade.

Despite the NSX being the slower of the four, I'd take it because it still turns heads. Even a '91 has that appeal.

Vettes are everywhere. But it's rare to see the Ford GT, Dodge Viper, or Acura NSX around. Those three have the edge in exclusivity by far. And arguably things like the trannies are more precise in the supercars. Everything is just more precise.

Absolutely agree.

People who are capable of purchasing these cars are, for the most part, astute individuals who are looking for a performance car that fulfills ALL of their needs. Often this includes performance, exclusivity, appearance, and heritage. Each car is excellent in its own right and each fulfills particular needs for its owner.

Perhaps Water can take a part of his ten million dollar in assets he claims to have and purchase both, and then give us an unbiased evaluation of each.

It's not about pure speed, if so people wouldn't buy Enzo's etc and they'd all be in Z06's. You obviously have very little knowledge about the FGT, but that doesn't suprise me.

The NSX, regardless of year, is one of the cars that still gives me a thrill whenever I see one. I think its held up rather well throughout the years.

Enzo's also have the issue of the rear engine cover expanding from the heat and you can't open it for awhile until it cools down (get's stuck).

Few weeks ago there was a white GT/blue stripes parked down at a local hot spot town.

Parked right along the street, that car was getting more attention than you could possibly imagine.....was actually shocking.

The Z06 is simply an amazing car, but certainly does not have the exotic appeal of a Ford GT.

For the $, I still wouldn't buy a GT....but I understand why someone would.
