Best car for around ~$10k

Helping one of my friends look for a good car around 10k. We saw a couple TL's selling for that price and he really likes it but i'm kind of worried about the whole transmission deal with the 2G. Heres what were looking for...

1) 4DR/Auto (for insurance purposes)
2) Minor luxuries (auto windows, seats, leather etc..)
3) Looks

He doesn't know the first thing about performance so that should make life easier but I still can't seem to find something decent in that price range. Infiniti I35 comes to mind but he thinks its ugly and plain looking...Any ideas?

He was looking at a 2G TL, and he thinks the I35 is boring and plain looking?

Do your friend a favor and stay away from the 2G TL. I have a 145K mile 2G CL and hold my breath every time I step on the gas...

Do him another favor and steer him toward a Maxima, or better yet an Infiniti I30/I35. My wife had an I30t for 4 years and the damn thing was bullet-proof. And when it was freshly waxed, it got plenty of compliments from complete strangers.
A little boring to look at? Yes.
A best-buy for that kinda $$? Very much so.

You can find 2000 RLs, 2001 Audi A4s with decent mileage for that price.

There are 2003 G35s with 100k miles in that range too.

looking for something cheaper, newer, more reliable?
or older, more luxurious, and more milage?

I say 2003 Infiniti M45, probably out of budget, but I think I've seen some in the low teens, and maybe people are wanting to drop the big v8. Definitely VIP status maybe 4 door Integ, IS300, Mazda 6, CL-S 6sp (does auto/4dr really affect insurance? :P ), if you are willing to go a bit older, Q45 (I like the Y33), SC300/400

I actually have a 2g TL myself...I like it, but the tranny problems would make me reconsider.

at the above poster who said that they get nervous everytime they step on the gas...that is THE worst!

I love those older Maxima's... They're bulletproof. I find it hard to believe they are as cheap as they are but that's good news for you!

i wouldnt stray above an original sticker of 30k, or else you are over-extending the usage of the car.

Any reliable Japo FTW
