Bent Wheels

So I've been searching around the internet and haven't found much info, just a bunch of people asking where to repair bent wheels at. What I was wondering is that when a bent wheel is repaired, will the strength of the wheel be the same or will it be a tad bit weaker than before; making it prone to bending again with less force?

I had 3 repaired at a local shop.... it was 88$ a pop. No further problem. However for my new set of tires, I bought 225/45/18 instead of 225/40/18... 225/40 is just not enough tire wall for our bad roads, IMO.

In my experience yes they are a slight bit weaker than before, In the past I have had wheels repaired and each that was repaired eventually was bent again.

A quality shop will not only fix the bent wheels properly but also stand behind their work.

Usually the market average is around $100, just to fix one bent wheel.

This does not include refinishing them etc.

Structural integrity only depends on how the wheel was manufactured in the first place not how well it was straightened by the wheel shop.

Cheap replica wheels such as Rota etc are much weaker compared to wheels made by companies such as BBS, Volk etc. You much rather have a wheel bent than cracked as cracked wheels can not be fixed cheap compared to bent and also, cracked usually means that the alloy is brittle and wheels are made using cheap production methods and raw materials.

I had my wheel repaired and have hit big potholes since and it is still perfectly round. LIke above, it probably all depends on the quality of the wheel. Unless its a really cheap wheel to begin with repairing is much cheaper than replacing.

hmm, well the wheels are SSR 3 piece wheels. So I'm sure the quality is of much higher standard compared to the low end rep wheels. Although, I've heard SSR is weaker compared to volks. That I'm not so sure. I'm not so much as worried about the cost of fixing, but more so the strength after the repair. I wouldn't want to get a repaired wheel that will just inevitably bend without as much resistance as before.

Depends on who you take it to, friend of mine took his to wheelsamerica.com, and his wheels are now better than they were before he claims.

And they had a 12 hour turn around apparently.
