Beltronics RX55

Okay well after understanding my other radar does not have "POP" mode, I am looking for a midrange priced radar detector. Does anyone have first hand experience with the Beltronics RX55 as it has the new POP mode and seems to be just as good as the RX65 except for the filtering and european alerts.

I can get this for $169 new, which is a phenomenal price I think.

The Bel X55 is a good product, but it is NOT the same as the Escort Passport 8500 in peformance. The Bel X65, which is more expensive, IS virtually the same as a Passport 8500. Bel is owned by Escort.

Can I offer a more reliable and proven independent source for radar detector testing?

http://www.speedzones.com/

There, I feel better.

2004 Annual Radar Detector Test Set-Speed Measurement Laboratories, Inc’s. Annual Radar Detector Test is set for June 11-13 in El Paso, TX. New radar and laser guns announced at the annual International Association of Chiefs of Police will be pitted against new radar detectors from all manufacturers. Laser countermeasures will be evaluated. A new radar detector-detector will be there along with many of the Girls of Radar. Radar and laser gun representatives along with officials from local and state police agencies have committed to attend. As is our practice, all radar and laser guns will be operated by certified police officers told to use the guns as they do each day in giving speeding tickets. A new 12 mile long range test course will be used to see who is the “Long Ranger” of radar detectors. Retail samples of the same models brought radar detector makers will be tested to compared their performance. Last year’s test was covered by Motor Trend Magazine , Playboy and Harley Davidson’s American Iron Magazine. Expect the results to be posted to www.speedzones.com by the end of June '04. Let the games begin and stay tuned to see who wins!

Also ex prelude, I dont understand the testings of radar roy as the rx55 and rx65 in my eyes should have the same performance as they use the same chips and components. I just thought the rx65 has features like european detection and a few small things that make it more expensive.

Do you really think that "european detection and a few small things" add up to the $100 price difference? I'm not saying that you're wrong, just wondering. I notice that SmartPlug is included with the X65 (I assume this is the same as Escort's $29.95 SmartCord).

As Beltronics is now owned by Escort, I have to wonder if they would be selling an equivalent Bel model for $70.00 less than the Passport 8500 X50? Maybe.

Well I mean I dont understand where the performance and filtering are different in the two models as it seems they use the same components?

The V1, Bel X65 and Escort Passport 8500 are all pretty much equal in performance, regardless of what V1 fanatics will tell you.
The V1 is a lot more expensive at $400.

Bel and Escort have introduced new models. Bel has replaced the 985 in its "Vector Series with the 995 and introduced the "Professional Series" RX65 and RX55. Escort has replaced the Passport 8500 with the 8500 X50. Valentine continues with its Valentine One.
