Barrett-Jackson......
Barrett-Jackson......
Have you been watching? My goodness, can you fucking believe the prices people are paying for some of these cars!!!! Simply unreal.
Caroll Shelby's 1966 Cobra 427 SuperSnake sold for $5 million bucks beating last year's GM FutureLiner by 1 million. Same buyer, Ron Pratte, who has spent in the $20 mllion dollar range at B-J over the years.

Wow... I know it's a historically significant car, but 5M is alot of money...
I looked quickly thru some of the results and alot of the 60's musclecars were sold for more then I paid for my house
edit: I was looking at some local stuff and found this one for 1/10th the price

Iv been watching the Barret-Jackson auctions the couple days. Each day the cars have got more expensive. Amazing how much money people have to buy cars. I dont think i seen a car sell for under $100K today
I think the alot of the people who were young when these cars first came out are financially free now...kids out of the house, no mortgage, money in investments, so dropping a chunk of change on a childhood dream might make sense to alot of them. $5M on the other hand...I am sure the guy is doing pretty well lol. I wonder if he is a producer like storch LOL
I've been watching Barrett-Jackson, and some of the prices are unbelievable, as well as the conditions of the cars. People have spent some serious time money and elbow grease keeping these cars looking like that. I can understand the effort, etc., that it took to maintain such a car, but $5 million? I don't know if I could do it, collector or not.
I was amazed when I saw Caroll Shelby's Cobra go for $5 milliion. Amazing!! My favorite auction whas the pair of Boss Mustangs (302 & 429) that went for $530,000. Those things were beautiful!!
Funny thing is I grew up with all of these 60's machines. I was the original owner of a real honest-to-God supercar (they were never called musclecars in the 60's.. that term came later).
I remember a man who owned two 1966 427 AC Shelby Cobras; one black and one an ugly baby blue. Think what he would get today if he still owned both (he did own the baby blue one in the 90's).
Oh, the mid-60's supercar that I owned? A 1966 SS396/360 L34 Chevelle with the M21 tranny. That was the only year that Chevrolet ever produced the L34 engine in that configuration and state of tune (360 HP, Holley carb, 4-bolt mains).

you must be a g35 driver
Some of the cars are just works of art. one of my faovrits was an orange (chevelle?) that was completely a tube chassis with i think 600hp but on the outside looked completely like a mint off the lot car. Amazing sleeper and quality.
Selling the cars in pairs also was a very good idea whoever came up with it.

And yes, I ordered the car on March 30, 1966 and took delivery on April 29th.
My dad had a blue, '63, fuel injected corvette convertable in high school. I've seen pics of of that thing, and man was it nice. Seeing how much those things are going for now, I bet he wishes he kept it.
I did see a '72 corvette only go for $38k today. I was pretty surprised.

That sounded like a sweet car. Ever think about trying to find another one?

Biggest flop of the show was Von Dutch's bus and his gear. Most of the items in the collection had been auctioned off middle of last year and one guy bought the whole collection for very close to a million dollars.
A lot of that collection was included w/ this bus, for whooping $40,000; unreal. I would have bought it had I been out there!

I don't know if any of you guys will remember but. When the announcers were talking to Edsel Ford he mentioned how he went and spent a summer living with Shelby, at the end of it he was given a GT500KR and proceeded to get pulled over and thrown in jail on the way home. Well the friend that was in the car with them when they got pulled over and thrown in Jail was a cousin of mine who was good friends with Edsel when they were teens.
My cousin had told me this story about 10 years ago and my dad about 30 years ago, so it was cool to hear the story on TV

I purchased my first car ever in 1986 from the second owner...1967 Camaro RS/SS 350 4sp, deluxe int, console, wood wheel, speed warning etc...I came close a few times to selling it but every time i see these prices going up im glad i didnt. Im looking at putting some money back into it and doing a 2nd correct restoration of the car.
