Bar Code In Cars

Sorry but i didnt know were to post this. Ramblings? or here is fine?

Well i have been seing alot of cars with a sticker about 2.5"x3" bar code. What is this for? I mean its not just 3 or 7 cars, Its been more than 60 since i first saw this like year back. Just came back to mind again today..

It contains the vin on most vehicles, its located under the hood and on the door placard of most all newer vehicles.

No no... I think he's talking about the one that is usually located on the driver side rear window.

if its on more than one part of the car, than it might be part numbers. Like fenders, hoods, trunk lids, ext for easy replacments?...

I think he's talking about bar code stickers on the side windows on cars are for gated communities, parking garages, etc.

yeah yeah i am talking about the rear windows. its on the outside.. ARe they for gated communities? WTF so man out there specially here in miami!!

Yeah, a lot of people have those bar code sticker on their cars here too. Lucky where I live it's just a remote to open the gate, personally I don't like having those ugly bar code stickers on my car.

same here dallison, does someone come out w/ a scanner when you enter the complex? Cause all cars are different heights, etc, how does it ensure it gets each one?

thats exactly what they are for, my grandparents live in avila in tampa and they have a barcode on their cars to open the gate. I see them in flordia A LOT.

Those are probably RENTAL CARS.
SO they can scan the car when you leave and return it.

Most automated gate scanners are pretty good, usually it can read the barcode sticker on the car or truck from about six feet away.

Which is probably how it should be everywhere. I think people like the stickers on their car as a status symbol telling everyone they live in a gated community.
