AWD cars without Transverse Engine Layout

FWIW any concerns about the oil pan being too close to the cylinders probably have been addressed by the engineers who designed the car. Just sounds like a quicker warm-up time to me
If you're worried about internal friction/gears or whatever, why are you considering AWD cars?

Not really, there is no 90o gear needed for the front differential for a transverse motor.
So a longitudinal motor requires
1) 90o gear for rear diff
2) 90o gear for front diff
A transverse motor requires
1) 90o gear for rear driveshaft
2) 90o gear for rear diff
0o gears are far more efficient than angle gears, alot also depends on straight versus angle cut gears.

seems like the arugment is void. if the car is new then working on it wont be a concern for a very long time.
if its used then i can understand, but if its proven reliable then why worry about working on it?
if u are trying to get the most efficient engine layout as far as power loss goes then a transverse FWD engine is more efficient than a longitudinally mounted AWD one. plain fact.
for 30k you wont find much due to your applied filters, perhaps giving some to get some will help here

While we're making obscure irrational requests...
Can anyone recommend to be an AWD car with a manual transmission that does not have it's ignition switch on the steering column? Just my preference.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited or the 2006-2010 SRT-8 Grand Cherokee are both very fast awd/4wd and nearly within the requirements. or you could get a subaru and swap in a rotary motor. bmw's 335xi is within your budget, or any older 3 series xi. maybe you could find a suzuki samurai and swap a bigger engine(iv'e seen a rotary samurai, it was cool), but it is kinda small on the inside .

The "300 plus HP" version comes north of $40k. In fact, the lowest is $44,340. That's only about $3.5k less than the S4. Of course, if you start piling on options, then the difference is larger.

My bad. I should have said used CTS w/AWD. Maybe off-lease. 2009 might be at the $30K mark.
